Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Westbound/Elektra, 1983. Very Good
A killer cut! The Clark Sisters were mostly a gospel-oriented group, but they cut this amazing groover during the early 80s, and it's got a semi-secular sound that launched them into the mainstream soul world for a while. The cut's got a great stepping groove, a very catchy hook in the chorus, ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Sound Of New York/Becket, 1982. Very Good-
Maybe a bit goofy, but now a classic club track that's survived the test of time nicely as just about every DJ's theme song, with a monster scratchy guitar riff, and lots of that rolling bass pedal groove that was so popular in the early 80s. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Chocolate City, 1978. Very Good-
Disco remix of this nicely progressive soul track by Vernon Burch. The track's not as classic sounding as some of his work, but it does have a nice enough hook, and some righteous lyrics that keep the groove strong. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Pretty Pearl, Early 80s. Very Good-
A nice hook, cool keyboards, and a sweet flanged-out vocal style all make this one a nice bit of 80s groove! Curtis sings in a wonderfully warm style, and he delivers the song in an excellent sort of way that should have made him one of the bigger soul acts of the 80s! 12-inch, Vinyl record
4th & Broadway, 1987. Very Good- (pic cover)
An offshoot of the 4AD rock scene from the UK, this number sampled Rakim from "Paid In Full" to great effect – and it made quite a bit of sense that the track was issued on 4th & Broadway in the US (probably also a legal move, so that the label wouldn't sue 4AD for copping a ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Mercury, 1992. Very Good-
A shameless bit of pop house – but we love it! Lidell's original tune is super catchy, with a "nu nu" vocal refrain that will keep you humming for days – and it's presented here in a bunch of different extended mixes! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Warner, 1984. Very Good (pic cover)
One of our favorite tracks ever from Prince – an instantly funky, instantly catchy tune that never fails to blow us away with its dexterity! The jam sounds great, even after all these years – and it's backed by a non-LP cut, "Another Lonely Christmas" – in which Prince ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
