Mike Rep & The Quotas — Hellbender – 1975 to 1978 ... LP 15.99

Raw underground rock from mid 70s Ohio – which was for whatever reason (or reasons),one hell of a hotbed for caustic rock & roll – and these firebrands are more than worthy of that legacy! Mike Rep & The Quotas carry more of a torch for rugged, primoridial rock and roll than some of the more nihlistic or art damaged trailblazers from mid 70s OH, taking fuzzy, knife-sharp stabs songs like "Gloria", and in-the-red trudge on the Bo Diddley beat on "Bo Diddley Is A Quote", and even a rugged cover of Roxy Music's "Editions Of You", but it's mostly an original, distinctive blast. Lots of previously unreleased tracks on this great Hozac Archival discovery – and other tracks include "Laugh Jackal Laugh", "Cowboy Gone Straight", "Black Hole '78", "Even Higher" and more. (Still in the shrink.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Chrysalis, 1973. Very Good
Pretty heavy duty rock from this group that featured drummer Cozy Powell. Most of the tracks aren't too great to our ears, but there's one killer break track called "Seven Long Years" – a stone jammer that begins with some great drums that break nicely into guitars. Liberty, Late 60s. Very Good+
Nice groovy instrumentals from one of the best little combos of the 60's. The record includes their big hit "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In)", plus a number of other tracks that have a similar "TV commercial" feel – like "Chiquita Banana", "Pizza ... LP, Vinyl record album
MCA/Goldhawke, 1977. Very Good+
The second album by this hip funky rock combo – with a flanged out 70s groove that reminds us a bit of Average White Band, a bit of Hot Chocolate (the British group). The best cuts have funk in the forefront – with plenty of basswork and wah wah guitar. The rest of the album's more of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atco, 1968. Very Good+ Gatefold
A bold step forward for the Rascals – and a record that really has them taking some great chances with their music! There's a definite psychedelic influence in the mix, but the sound is also more ambitious too – not just a scattering of elements borrowed from their contemporaries, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts
Sire, 1981. Very Good+
A groundbreaking collaboration between Brian Eno & David Byrne – recorded with a spare, stripped down love of electronics and found sound samples – in a mode that would have a huge influence on countless records to come! Donovan at his jazzy best – really picking up where Mellow Yellow left off, and pushing the jazz influences in his sound to deeper lengths! World Pacific, Late 60s. Very Good
Trippy late 60s pop from Peter Sarstedt – almost folk-rock, but with a fuller, more mind-bending style that kind of recalls Donovan, or the host of other less-remembered artists who picked up from Dylan and took things in a headier direction! The production is really wonderful – with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1970. Very Good-
These guys will forever be known for the jazzy grooving title hit – "Vehicle", a brassy driving number that seems as if it's always being used in some sort of car commercial (which must net these guys a lot of royalties!) – but which is usually mistaken by others for being the ...
