Don't Look Any Further

LP (Item 82623) Gordy, 1984 — Condition: Very Good+
Dennis Edwards made some great music with The Temptations – but a record like this is key proof that he was maybe even stronger as a solo act on his own! There's a mature 80s vibe to the whole record – one that comes from the commandingly strong, soulful style that Edwards perfected with his previous group – a depth that never gets lost in the 80s production, weather quiet storm mellow or upbeat and catchy – really well formed all the way through, thanks to work from producer Dennis Lambert. Siedah Garrett duets with Edwards on the mellow groover "Don't Look Any Further" – and other tracks include "(You're My) Aphrodisiac", "Another Place In Time", "I Thought I Could Handle It", and "Just Like You".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

High Inergy

Turnin On
Gordy, 1977. Very Good+
Maybe the best album ever from this late 70s Motown group – a set that's got the girls really stepping out with a nice degree of power – in a groove that's different than the usual female disco mode of the time! The record's got a much more fully-formed sort of feel – not just a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gordy, 1970. Near Mint-
It's later in the Temps' career, when they were cutting much heavier soul material – but Berry's still got them polishing up for the crossover crowd, in this case at London's classy Talk Of The Town nightclub. The group still get in some strong soul tunes – like "Cloud Nine", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Martha & The Vandellas

Watchout!
Gordy, 1966. Very Good
One of Motown's best girl groups, caught here on a classic batch of album tracks with a great mix of material. Includes their classic reading of "Jimmy Mack", plus "I'll Follow You", "Let This Day Be", "I'm Ready For Love", "He Doesn't Love Her ... LP, Vinyl record album
Gordy, 1962. Near Mint-
One of the coolest, grooviest early group albums on Motown – sung by a group who've got a wonderfully rocking sound throughout – something you can probably guess from the placement of the guitar on the cover! Temptations

Cloud Nine
Gordy, 1969. Very Good
A masterpiece in psychedelic soul from The Temptations – perhaps the most perfectly realized album from their years working with Norman Whitfield! The set's awash in that bottom-heavy, rumbling funk mode that Whitfield brought to the group at the end of the 60s – served up in bold ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mandrill

Composite Truth
Polydor, 1973. Very Good Gatefold
One of the greatest records ever from Mandrill – a set that has the group tightening things up and getting even more funky than on their first few records, but with a vibe that's still nicely loose and spontaneous overall! The set's got Mandrill perfectly balanced between jazz-tinged funk ... LP, Vinyl record album

Minnie Riperton

Adventures In Paradise
Epic, 1975. Near Mint-
Maybe our favorite-ever album from Minnie Riperton during the 70s – a sweet, smooth jazzy gem that really makes some of the best use of her vocals! There's a sophistication here that's a great 70s counterpart to Minnie's earlier work with Charles Stepney – served up here in a very ... LP, Vinyl record album

Melvin Van Peebles

Brer Soul
A&M, 1968. Very Good Gatefold
Amazing stuff from Melvin Van Peebles! Brer Soul is a mad mix of funky soul insanity and straight up wisdom – a mix of moods that also seems to inform the best of his films, now that we think about it – and it's put together with enough wild clashes of culture to shake anyone up. Funk ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvelettes

Please Mr Postman
Motown, 1961. Near Mint-
One of the first great group albums on Motown – and a set that really paved the way for later albums by The Supremes, Martha & The Vandellas, and other Motown girl groups! The Marvelettes were easily one of the most perfectly-formed acts on the label at the start – and this smoking ... LP, Vinyl record album
Portrait, 1985. Near Mint-
A damn great soul album! Sure, the record was a crossover classic that got played to death back in the 80s – but give it a listen now, and you'll be stunned to hear how fresh it sounds, and how much it reminds you of all the British soul acts that sprung up in the years after it was released. ...
