Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

The Funky Knuckles may look a bit goofy on the back cover of this third album, but they really have a serious groove in their music – a way of hitting some key funky jazz modes from the 70s, but in ways that are hardly retro at all! Instead, the sound is very much their own – a ... CD
JJ's Broadway
Verve (Japan), 1963. Used
JJ's Broadway is a-ok with us – a hip mix of small group tunes, played with the great Walter Perkins on drums, and handled with a much more complicated approach than most other "jazz meets Broadway" type albums! About half the tracks feature a quartet with Perkins on drums, plus ... CD
Jubilee/Warner (Japan), 1959. Used
An album that's way better than you might expect – not the easy cash-in on the film Some Like It Hot that's telegraphed by the cover – but instead a tight trad jazz date by trombonist Lou McGarity – done in some of the same mature modes as Jack Teagarden's work from the same time! ... CD
Hidden Kingdom
DIW/Somethin Cool (Japan), 1996. Used
Bassist Rodney Whitaker's always been one to carefully choose the right musicians for his projects – and for this set he really knocks it out of the park with a visionary lineup of soulful talents who really make the music soar! The lineup shifts a bit from track to track – but the ... CD
Got My Mojo Workin'
Verve (Japan), 1965. Used
The title's a bit bluesy, and the record is too – one of the grittier collaborations between Hammond legend Jimmy Smith and ultra-hip arranger Oliver Nelson – who manages to make the whole thing come across with all the right soul styles in the end! There's definitely a nod to the ... CD
Hati Hati

Tremendous recent work from tenorist Eero Koivistoinen – a player who gave us some very wild records in the 70s, but who's equally wonderful here as a more straight-ahead musician! The group's a quartet, and the tunes have this fantastically poetic feel – richly soulful, with drawn-out ... CD
