The mighty Mahavishnu Orchestra – presented with some core 70s classics, and crucial material from the same stretch – but not issued until many years later! The crux of the package is the trio of albums Inner Mounting Flame, Birds Of Fire, and Between Nothingness & Eternity – all of which feature a hard fusion lineup with John McLaughlin on guitar, Jan Hammer on keyboards, and Billy Cobham on drums. Added to these is the excellent Lost Trident Sessions – material that's gone onto become equally important as the initial 70s releases, with an even sharper, deeper vibe! Last up is a full CD of unreleased tracks from Between Nothingness & Eternity – a must-have for Mahavishnu fans – and, like the rest of the titles here, packaged in cool LP-styled sleeves, in box with added notes.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Kenny Clarke

Telefunken Blues
Savoy/Sony (Japan), 1954/1955. Used
One of the greatest American albums to be issued under Kenny Clarke's name – a smoking set of boppish tracks that groove in a very early 50s Blue Note sort of way! And in fact, the tracks are a bit longer than the usual Blue Note bop sides, which makes them open up with some even longer ... CD

One of Lee Morgan's first-ever recordings as a leader, cut way back when he was just a hip teenager from Philly with a bucketful of promise on the trumpet! The session's a crack hard bop date – with an all-star cast that includes Hank Mobley on tenor, Hank Jones on piano, Doug Watkins on ... CD
CBS/Sony (Japan), 1957. Used
A masterful meeting of two 50s modern jazz talents – the trumpet of Miles Davis balanced with the arrangements of Gil Evans – with results that have made the album one of Miles' greatest ever! The sound here is completely sublime – as Davis gets all chromatic and spooky over ... CD

Excellent live work from the start of the 80s – very different than the full-on electric jams of Miles Davis concert performances from the early 70s – and at a level that shows that Miles was really finding a way forward with at great new groove! There's a nice sense of open space on ... CD

Charlie Persip & The Jazz Statesmen

Charlie Persip & The Jazz Statesmen
Bethlehem/EMI (Japan), 1960. Used
A killer hardbop session – and a long lost classic! This stunning set is one of the best, and hardest sessions ever cut for the Bethlehem label – and it's got a raw pounding groove that sounds a lot more like some of the classic soul-tinged hardbop coming out on Prestige during the ... CD
