The title's no like – as these guys definitely groove, and they're definitely funky too – a sweet 70s combo from the Lagos scene, and one who play with a very sharp edge at their core! Aktion make nice use of darker, downturning chords – which creates a moody feel to their funk, and a vibe that's a bit in the territory of bigger-name acts like Cymande and Blo – and like the former, they've also got a great bassist, who makes for lots of dubby currents in the rhythms! Vocals are in English, but layered in this cool way with the organ lines and riffing guitars that dominate most of the instrumentation – on titles that include "Tell Me Baby", "Play With Me", "Groove The Funk", "I Don't Have To Cry", "Masquerade", and "I've Got To Hope For Tomorrow".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

PMG (Austria), 1980. Used
A really unique project from the end of the 70s – a set that takes some of the Afro Funk energy that was bubbling in West Africa during the decade, then mixes it with some funky jazz touches arranged by the great William S Fischer! The mix of cultures comes out perfectly – with no ... CD

Killer work from the Syllart catalog of the 70s – tunes that are neither rumba, nor rock – but a strange hybrid of a number of different elements! Almost all the tracks here have a pronounced electric part – not really fuzzy, or rockish – but often played in a highly ... CD

Fela & Africa 70

No Agreement
Terrascape, Mid 70s. Used
A killer from the classic years, and one of Fela's best albums! "No Agreement" is a super great groover – with a catchy hook that goes on and on, and some very tasty playing by Tony Allen and the group. The track is long, with heavy solos, and vocals that will knock you out! ... CD

Bombay Disco 2
Cultures Of Soul, 1980s. Used
Bombay grooves, but not just the disco promised in the title – as these cuts come mostly from the 80s years of Bollywood, and show Indian funk moving into a great new realm of styles! There's definitely a disco vibe at the core – and as in other scenes, the style stayed current a lot ... CD

Pazy & The Black Hippies

Wa Ho Ha
Secret Stash, 1978. Used
A weird little record from the Nigerian scene of the 70s – much more laidback than you might expect, and a set with a definite Jamaican influence too! At times, some of these tracks are almost more reggae than Afro Funk – although at other points, there's definitely the fierce energy ... CD
