❔

A spacey soul classic – with a sound that never gets old! Faze-O will be forever remembered for their massive cut "Riding High", the leadoff on this album – a stretched out slow funk jam that has amazing keyboards, floating guitars, and a super-dope groove that's stayed fresh from the moment it was first set to wax back in 1977! This album's the group's first, and best – and it's a really wonderful record that blends together funky fusion and heavy soul – filled with killer cuts arranged by the Ohio Players, and with lots of great keyboards by the group! Includes, of course, the massive cut "Riding High" – plus "Toe Jam" and "Funky Reputation"!  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear, but looks great overall.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Rotary Connection

Aladdin
Cadet, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
Heavenly mystical soul from Rotary Connection! If you know the group, you know the deal already: Minnie Riperton sings vocals on a number of cuts, and the great Charles Stepney's producing and arranging, with a super-baroque style that's still light years ahead of most producers in pop! The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chaka Khan

Chaka
Warner, 1978. Near Mint-
The classic late 70s solo debut by Chaka Khan – one that made Chaka a major star, and deservedly so! This beautiful album showed that she could stand very well on her own two feet without the help of Rufus, thank you. Of course, she's got some fantastic help from Arif Mardin, who works as ... LP, Vinyl record album
Arista, Mid 60s/1985. Near Mint-
80's compilation of their best hard soul tracks from the 60's, most of which are very elusive on wax these days! The boys sing hard rockin' duo tracks, in the best sort of vein of Sam & Dave, and other male duets from the time. Includes their classic break track "I'm Your Puppet", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gloria Jones

Come Go With Me
Uptown, Late 60s. Very Good+
Very nice lost Uptown soul album, with nice arrangements by Lincoln Mayorga, and some very raw vocals from Gloria. We like this one much better than her later work, and it's got a good soulful groove, mixed with some sensitive vocal interpretation. Titles include "Come Go With Me", a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Johnny Nash

Teardrops In The Rain
Cadet, Early 60s/1972. Near Mint-
A repackaged version of Johnny Nash's earlier Chess album – Composer's Choice – given a sexier early 70s look, clearly to cash in on his big hit at the time. The tracks are older material with a nice jazzy feel, and although the record sounds nothing like Johnny's 70s work, it is a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Average White Band & Ben E King

Benny & Us
Atlantic, 1977. Near Mint-
Ben E King joins the Average White Band for this sweet 70s set – a killer record that not only stands as one of King's best efforts of the decade, but one that also gives the group a great new frontman! Ben's not the only singer on the record, but his presence here can definitely be felt ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michael Jackson

Best Of Michael Jackson
Motown, Early 70s. Near Mint-
Michael's on lead vocals here – in a set of tracks that's all from the early 70s, when he was starting to break away from The Jackson Five, but was still mostly recording with them. 10 tracks in all: "Ben", "Got To Be There", "One Day In Your Life", "I ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lou Donaldson

Sweet Lou
Blue Note, 1974. Very Good+
Sweet Lou, but funky Lou too – a perfect blend of modes that makes for one of Donaldson's last great albums for Blue Note! The set's got some fuller arrangements from Horace Ott – but given Ott's work in the indie soul world during the 60s, there's still a nice edge to the record too ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stanley Turrentine

ZT's Blues
Blue Note, 1961/1985. Very Good+
A great lost session by Stan The Man – recorded in the early 60s when he was doing some of his best work, but not issued by Blue Note until the mid 80s! The album stands right up there with other Blue Note gems of the time – especially albums like Comin Your Way and Jubilee Shout, both ... LP, Vinyl record album

Buck Clayton & Buddy Tate

Buck & Buddy
Prestige/Swingville, 1960. Very Good+
Beautiful blowing from Buck Clayton and Buddy Tate – captured here in the relaxed, easy-going setting of the Swingville label! The album's got a lot more charm than some of Clayton's sides for Columbia – a bit more mellow, with the kind of after hours feel that lets players like these ... LP, Vinyl record album

Charlie Palmieri

Montuno Sessions
Mr Bongo (UK), Late 80s. Very Good+
First-ever issue of this great session of unreleased Latin material from the mid-80s, in which Charlie Palmieri leads a host of great Latin players – like Henry Fiol and Jimmy Sabater – through a bunch of hard jazzy material. The recording quality is excellent, and the production keeps ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1959. Near Mint-
A pretty darn great record, and a lot more swinging than you'd expect! The basic theme is the Wizard Of Oz – but Shorty makes the tunes groove way way more than they ever did, and thanks to help from hip players like Jimmy Giuffre, Herb Geller, and Bud Shank, the tracks have loads of ...
