Live At The Lighthouse '66

LP (Item 8226) Pacific Jazz, 1966 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
One of the Jazz Crusaders' classic funky live sets from the 60's, recorded live at the Lighthouse, where there talents were slowly becoming the stuff of legend. Nice tight soul jazz stuff, with some excellent groovers that include an early version of "Scratch", plus "Blues Up Tight", "Miss It", and "Doin' That Thing". Longish tracks, with good drawn-out solos, and a totally heavy groove!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label stereo pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear and aging, and a sticker on the back and front.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Live & Swinging
Pacific Jazz, Late 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the hippest of Gerald Wilson's recordings for Pacific Jazz in the 60s – an excellent live session with a very groovy edge! Wilson's studio work for the label at the time was great enough, but somehow, hearing his group working live, we get a new appreciation of his genius – as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Groovin' With Jug
Pacific Jazz, 1961. Very Good
Quite an unusual date – both for the players, who are normally more at home on Prestige Records – and for the Pacific Jazz label, who were then a cornerstone of west coast cool jazz! A west coast classic – featuring some of Bud Shank's best small group work of the mid 50s! Les McCann

McCanna
Pacific Jazz, 1964. Very Good+

Joe Pass

Catch Me!
Pacific Jazz, 1963. Very Good
Nice, mellow, and very groovy! Joe Pass plays here with the piano and organ of Clare Fischer, who's always one of our favorites – a player who manages to turn any session into something more than it appears at face value – thanks to a strong sense of craft and cleverness! Clare's ... LP, Vinyl record album
