De Pelicula

LP (Item 822167) Gema, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good
Great work from his most classic years – titles that include "Si La Vieras", "Yo Soy El Son Cubano", "El Hijo De Dios", "Ya No Te Quiero", "Eres Mala Cabeza", "La Paella", and "Esa Va".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Heavy black label US pressing – cover is nice.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gema, 1967. Very Good
One of our favorite albums ever from El Gran Combo – largely because it's a smoking Latin Soul set! The group were known for a more traditional groove on other records, but here they nicely jump on the younger bandwagon of the time – and step out with a crackling batch of boogaloo ... Ray Barretto

Eye Of The Beholder
Atlantic/Fania, 1977. Very Good
A really wonderful album from Ray Barretto – more jazz fusion than his usual 70s salsa – but in a way that we really really love! The album's a crossover gem that has Ray working with Stix Hooper, Joe Sample, and Wilton Felder of The Crusaders – a trio who produced the record, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bobby Valentin

Algo Nuevo/Something New
Fania, Early 70s. Very Good-
A great album that has Bobby moving into "something new", as he switches from trumpet-based Latin Soul, into a bass-heavy groove that shows the roots of 70s salsa! The album's a killer, and Bobby's combo is in excellent form – working with a tightness that would set the pace for ... LP, Vinyl record album
Alegre, Early 60s. Very Good-
A landmark album, and the first-ever record on the young Alegre label – a sure-fire hit that put both the company and Pacheco firmly on the map! The record's a genre-setting batch of hard early charanga grooves filled with great flute work from a young Johnny Pacheco – recording here ... LP, Vinyl record album
International, 1977. Very Good
The 9th album that Roena cut with his Apollo Sound combo – and they're still grooving hard! The set's got a strong 70s salsa feel, with a three trumpet lineup, bongos from Roena, and some nice tenor and flute work by Miguel Rodriguez. Titles include "Marejada Feliz", "Nadie ... Pachanga & Other Latin Favorites
Brunswick, Mid 60s. Very Good-

Way Out - Vol 4
Alegre, Early 60s. Very Good-
4th volume in this great series of classic Latin descargas, featuring some of the greatest players of the sixties running through crack material that gives them all a chance to showcase their talents. Discos Embajador, Early 60s. Very Good-
Great early work from Joe Cuba! Sure, the tracks were recorded before Joe's legendary Latin Soul years – but the vibe is nice and fresh, and the tight stripped-down approach shows how much Joe was ready to revitalize Latin music in the 60s. The percussion's nice and strong, and many cuts ... LP, Vinyl record album
