Gene Norman Presents The Gerry Mulligan Quartet Vol 3 (10-inch)

LP (Item 820137) GNP, 1954 — Condition: Very Good
Very cool combo work from Gerry Mulligan – and very much in the Pacific Jazz style of the time, given that Chet Baker is in the group on trumpet! There's no piano at all – just Carson Smith on bass and Larry Bunker on drums – and Mulligan is already at his modern best!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing – nice and clean! Cover has light wear in one corner, but no splits and is otherwise very nice.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

GNP, 1948. Near Mint-
A legendary bit of cubop! Lyle Murphy

New Orbits In Sound
GNP, 1959. Very Good+
An obscure west coast set – featuring some very hard-driving big band arrangements, short but with breakout solos that really keep things moving along at a good pace. Miles Davis

Bitches Brew
Columbia, 1969. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power! The record itself is a key cap to Miles Davis' already-groundbreaking years of the 60s – a bold step forward, not just for his nascent electric sound, but also for jazz in general – and the benchmark ... Candid, 1960. Near Mint-
One of the most righteous albums that Max Roach ever cut – and a monumental jazz release from the heart of the Civil Rights era! Funky keyboards galore – and one of the greatest records ever from this legendary Brazilian jazz talent! John Coltrane

Coltrane Jazz
Atlantic, 1960. Very Good+
The title may be a simple one, but the record really marks a key point in John Coltrane's development – an embrace of the newer freedoms allowed to him at Atlantic Records, but in a way that's a bit more subtle than some of his other work for the label! At one level, the record moves at the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fantasy, 1958. Very Good
One of Cal Tjader's best late 50s dates for Fantasy Records – thanks to some smoking tenor sax from Jose "Chombo" Silva!
