✈
A great one from Brazilian soul singer Tim Maia – an album that's sung almost entirely in English, and which shows Maia really maturing into one hell of an international star! The set's got some great mellow grooves – tracks that would be right at home in the New Jersey scene of the early 70s – especially given their laidback execution, and honest, heartfelt lyrics – as well as the relatively spare, stripped-down instrumentation – which really leaves a lot of room for Tim's great vocals! Guitar is used wonderfully – in that spare-tripping style you'd find on obscure harmony soul singles of a few years before – and titles include "To Fall In Love", "With No One Else Around", "To Fall In Love", "I Love You Girl", "Let's Have A Ball Tonight", and "Day By Day". Amazing package, too – comes in a hardcover book-style jacket, with a bonus 45 page book that also includes full color images, with lots of vintage photos, plus notes on the record in Portuguese! The whole thing's sort of an update of the old Abril Cultural style of the 70s – brought into the CD generation.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Para Todos (CD & book)
RGE/Abril Cultural (Brazil), 1993. Used

Caetano Veloso

Prenda Minha
Polygram (Brazil), 1998. Used
Nice recent live set by this master of Brazilian song! The feel is pretty mellow in the best parts, with Caetano singing soulfully, with only guitar and small backing accompaniment. Some titles have more of a rockish feel, but there's plenty of nice ones with an older mellow sound. Titles ... CD

Jorge Ben

Forca Bruta
Philips/Dusty Groove, 1970. Used
A fantastically soulful album from Jorge Ben – one of his greatest records ever, and a key part of Brazilian music in the 70s! The album marks an earthier shift for Jorge – a sound that's still rooted in the samba influences of the 60s, but which also takes on a bit more soul at the ... CD
Favorite (France), 2012. Used
A contemporary set, but one that sparkles with all the best brilliance of the 70s scene in Brazil – and that includes such heady company as Marcos Valle, Azymuth, and Joao Donato! As with all those artists at the time, Lucas Arruda has a groove that's strongly based on Fender Rhodes – ... CD

Angelo Noce Santoro

For You
ANS/Pharaway Sounds (Spain), 1979. Used
Beautiful Latin-styled jazz – not really New York or Cuban, but also not Brazilian either – and instead this really wonderful hybrid of sounds that's cooked up by guitarist Angelo Noce Santoro – a player with roots in psych and prog! This album's not any of that, though – ... CD
Atlantic/Mr Bongo (UK), 1977. Used

Ana Caram

Sunflower Time
Universal (Brazil), 1996. Used
A great introduction to the music of Ana Caram – an early session recorded both in London and Brazil – with all the great mix of modes that might imply! The album's breathy and bossa in some spots, but full and jazzy in others – and Ana's equally at home in both settings! Some ... CD
