Pure wonderfulness from Internet – a group who seem to bound forward strongly with each new release! These guys are easily one of the most compelling mainstream soul acts we can think of – still very lean, and working with an indie-level vibe – but also able to focus in on hooks and the sorts of catchy elements that are bound to make the group huge in coming years! There's a crispy, crackling sound in the rhythms all the way through – but never in a too-abstract level, as some more sci-fi oriented artists can hit – and although the record features guest work from Janelle Monae, Tyler The Creator, and a few other stars – we actually love the group's own core performances the best. Titles include "Get Away", "Under Control", "Gabby", "Go With It", "Girl", "Special Affair", "Something's Missing", "Partners In Crime (part 3)", and "Penthouse Cloud".  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

An excellent bit of modern soul – a smooth seductive album that fits perfectly with an older mellow groove, but which also sparkles with the best recent efforts of the past decade. Maxwell's got a wonderful vocal style – reminding us a bit of classic Isley Brothers, Leon Ware, or O'Jay ... CD
Way I See It
Columbia, 2008. Used
Raphael Saadiq takes throwback soul and r&b to the next level on The Way I See It – rolling in a groove that recalls 60s Motown, grittier group soul, the sophisticated strings of the 70s scene, and subtle contemporary touches that keep it in the here and now! An awareness of the past and ... CD

A massive return to form for Maxwell – his first album in many years, but definitely well worth the wait! The set's supposedly the start of a trilogy – but hell, we're more than happy to have it all on its own – a wonderful reminder of the deeply soulful sound that first made us ... CD

Concord, 2015. Used
Lizz Wright just keeps on growing and growing as a singer – past the jazz and soul of her roots, to a space that easily has the singer reaching out to a much greater range of ears, but all while keeping true to her style! There's definitely a jazzy heart at the core of the record – and ... CD
Life On Earth
E One, 2016. Used
That magical Musiq voice is firmly in place here – and maybe even more electric than ever, as Mr Soulchild slides right in alongside the keyboards and grooves, with a sound that's almost more early 80s west coast funk than some of his earlier material! That blend makes for a magical flow ... CD

Great sounds from Sol – an artist with a warm glow right from the start, but also a nice sense of crispness that really personalizes his lyrics! Sol's got an approach here that almost feels like gospel – especially given his vocal range, and his positive energy – but the music is ... CD

Back To Black
Universal, 2006. Used
An incredible album from Amy Winehouse – even way better than her fantastic debut! Although a contemporary soul album, this one's steeped in tradition – soul styles that run the gamut from Detroit down to Kingston, and which are carried off here with a rougher, sharper-edged sound than ... CD
Voodoo
Virgin, 2000. Used
Sweet and gritty soul from D'Angelo – who takes a huge step into deeper territory on Voodoo – and it's one of the most monumental records of its time! On one level, Voodoo works as a nicely stripped-down session with a very classic soul feel. Gone are the overzealous flourishes that ... CD
