The tunes rely a bit more strongly on keyboards than before – making great use of Mike Ratledge's organ and electric piano, as well as additional keys from Elton Dean – and there's a floating quality to some of the best tunes that's really great – less of the jamming of some of the earlier Soft Machine jazz at times, with some great colors and tones that are almost pretty at times.
