A sweet Larry Levan mix of Janice's big disco hit – not the most original tune in the world, but catchy enough, especially in this version!  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Warner, 1984. Near Mint- (pic cover)
Quintessential 80s groove from Chaka Khan – a great version of Prince's "I Feel For You", remixed here with some really chunky beats and cool sampled vocal bits! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Warner, 1984. Very Good+ (pic cover)
A great single – not really for the long mix of "Let's Go Crazy", but for the excellent long funk cut "Erotic City". The track grooves for over 7 minutes – and if you were to ask us the one Prince tune we remember most fondly from the 80s dancefloor, this would be ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Warner, 1978. Very Good+
Easily one of the Doobies' biggest pop moments of the 70s – presented here in a promo-only single with a special "disco mix" that really just seems to improve the sonic quality of the tune, and not change up the overall song at all. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Atlantic/RFC, 1982. Very Good+
A sweetly stepping mid tempo disco groover with a hypnotic, stripped down Euro-disco feel that never veers too heavily into the pulsating sequencer mode or cheesy over-synthesized excess! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Warner, 1986. Near Mint- (pic cover)
... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sugar Hill, 1982. Near Mint-
A killer single from Trouble Funk, on Sugar Hill, with the band's trade mark percussive riffing, and as you'd expect from go go, loads of nice fills and breakdowns all centered around a fat rolling bass pedal groove. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Salsoul, 1981. Very Good
Not the famous "Ling Ching Tong" tune of doo wop fame, but a new track by Joe from his Latin disco years. The track's got a Salsoul type beat, but Joe's sticking to his Latin soul approach with the lyrics – despite the modern sound of the production and backings. Marty Sheller ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Polydor, 1980. Very Good+
A great track from Roy Ayers – and one that's often overlooked! The cut's a smooth mellow stepper, with a nice jazzy vibe, and a wonderful monologue from Roy at the beginning (he's trying to pick up a girl). The cut got kind of buried on the Love Fantasy LP – so it's extra nice to ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
TK, 1977. Very Good
Hit work from the legendary Peter Brown – a key player in far more club sides than we can remember, but a real chart-topper with this one! You may know the a-side, which is offered here in a nice long take with a drum break in the middle – but don't miss "Burning Love", which ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Atlantic/Atco, 1978. Very Good+
Ahhhhhhhhhh . . . Freak Out! What can we say? The cut's a monster – silly to be sure, but still with a choppy dancefloor groove that gets 'em every time! Nile Rogers, if you'd only stuck to guitar riffing like this, you'd have become President! 12-inch, Vinyl record
