Slave To The Rhythm

LP (Item 81624) Island, 1985 — Condition: Very Good+

Pretty nice later work from Grace! Although we prefer the percolating disco meets reggae records Grace Jones cut with Sly & Robbie to this later effort – but there's no denying that on a couple of numbers she really clicks with producer Trevor Horn's slick sheen. With "Ladies & Gentlemen: Miss Grace Jones", "Jones The Rhythm", "The Fashion Show", "The Frog & The Princess" and "Slave To The Rhythm".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cutout hole.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Wild Tchoupitoulas
Island, 1976. Near Mint-
One of the weird Meters-related New Orleans parade bands from the 70s – similar to the group The Wild Magnolias, but with a sound that's more in a New Orleans mode than a 70s funk one. A record that's as upbeat as its title – and a set that returns Chaka Khan to the classic club territory of her 80s solo classics! Gil Scott-Heron's first album – and his angriest! Rotary Connection

Aladdin
Cadet, 1974. Very Good Gatefold
Heavenly mystical soul from Rotary Connection! If you know the group, you know the deal already: Minnie Riperton sings vocals on a number of cuts, and the great Charles Stepney's producing and arranging, with a super-baroque style that's still light years ahead of most producers in pop! Chess, 1974. Very Good+
An excellent set of messed-up funky soul from Etta James – one of her killer early 70s sides for Chess! The album mixes together bluesy tracks and straight ahead soul – in a hip, bad-walking style that nicely updates Etta's older style for the 70s. The set includes a great funky cut ... Shama, Early 70s. Very Good+
Post-Twinight, and with a sound that's a little less raw, but still pretty darn soulful. Think what you want – we think this is a damn great soul album!
