We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A double-header of cuts from the Sign O The Times album! "U Got The Look" is presented here in a great extended version, with lots of riffing guitar – and "Housequake" gets a special 7 minute mix, with lots more funky horns overall! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Sure, the politics seem a bit silly now – but the track's still one of Prince's last really compelling hits. It's got a totally infectious hook, a spare Timmy Thomas-ish beat, and a strangely captivating vocal that really sticks with us. A great single – not really for the long mix of "Let's Go Crazy", but for the excellent long funk cut "Erotic City". The track grooves for over 7 minutes – and if you were to ask us the one Prince tune we remember most fondly from the 80s dancefloor, this would be ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Quintessential 80s groove from Chaka Khan – a great version of Prince's "I Feel For You", remixed here with some really chunky beats and cool sampled vocal bits! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Easily one of the Doobies' biggest pop moments of the 70s – presented here in a promo-only single with a special "disco mix" that really just seems to improve the sonic quality of the tune, and not change up the overall song at all. 12-inch, Vinyl record

A funky funky thumper from Barry White – and one of his last truly genius tracks! A nice disco-ish number off the Jacksons' Destiny LP, and though it's not really a skating jam, we do recall this one getting played at the roller rink quite a bit, and this version of the track has a nice breakdown in the middle too. The b-side's a nice midtempo groover. 12-inch, Vinyl record
