A rare promo pressing of these two excellent Brazilian jazz dance numbers, but with a strong modern flavor that keeps them perennial favorites on the stepper's scene here in Chicago, and on jazz funk dance floors elsewhere! We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Fantasy, 1978. Very Good+
Hardly a disco tune from Side Effect – and instead a nicely jazzy bit of club, served up in the best Wayne Henderson-directed mode of the group's Fantasy years! The tune's got a brassy finish that goes well with the lyrics – and it's backed by the even-better "I'm A Winner", ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Gold Mind, 1977. Very Good-
A killer Norman Harris/Philly club classic, issued here on the original 12" single! The long version is 7 minutes long, too! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Polydor, 1977. Very Good+ (pic cover)
Doobie-doo doobie-doo! One of the catchiest Roy Ayers dancefloor tracks ever – a bassy bumping thumper that wonderfully skirts the line between clubby and funky! Warner, 1984. Very Good+ (pic cover)
A great single – not really for the long mix of "Let's Go Crazy", but for the excellent long funk cut "Erotic City". The track grooves for over 7 minutes – and if you were to ask us the one Prince tune we remember most fondly from the 80s dancefloor, this would be ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Epic, 1978. Very Good+
"Groove Line" is an uptempo number, in the mode of Heatwave's more clubby type funk – but we're partial to "Always & Forever", the group's incredible slow jam ballad, one of those late nite 70s cuts that never grows old! 12-inch, Vinyl record

The super-huge hit – done up here in the full 12" version, which also features the cut morphing into "Where Did Our Love Go". 2 60s soul covers for the price of one! 12-inch, Vinyl record
