Ebulient Roaring Screaming Big Band Sound

LP (Item 7963) MPS, 1972 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold
U.S. double LP reissue of two great sides of hard swinging, hard grooving jazz by the great Clark-Boland Big Band. This is some of the best European jazz to be recorded in the late 60's, and one of the best ways to hear "lost" geniuses like Benny Bailey, Sahib Shihab, Jimmy Woode, Shake Keane, and Jimmy Deuchar – not to mention more famous players like Ronnie Scott, Eddie Davis, and Johnny Griffin. Great all the way through, with loads of tight short cuts like "The Turk", "Milkshake", "November Girl", "Peter's Waltz", and "New Box". Big on the international club scene, and big on the south side of Chicago. How can you go wrong?  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Clarke Boland Big Band

All Blues
MPS (Germany), 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold
An excellent Clarke Boland Big Band LP – very much in the spirit of the group's best work of the era – one that uses the blues of the title merely as springboard for their ebullient big band groove! Although Rosolino and Candoli were shining brightest during the late 50s west coast scene, this 1975 MPS session shows that they still could play quite strongly when encouraged! MPS (Germany), 1973. Very Good+
One of the all-time classic MPS sessions! An excellent MPS big-band session, in a mode that's sort of a mix between the firey hardbop of the Clarke-Boland ensemble, and the more modernist work of George Gruntz. The band is directed by Gruntz – and is co-led by Gruntz, Franco Ambrosetti, Flavio Ambrosetti, and Daniel Humair. The ... LP, Vinyl record album
