Magic

LP (Item 79493) ABC, 1978 — Condition: Very Good+

The second album from The Floaters – and just as bit a mellow soul classic as their first! The group still have an incredibly sweet harmony sound that easily beats the best of the rest of the harmony crowd at the time – and they sound especially great on the album's mellower tunes, which really let their voices open up and unfold. The set kicks off with an amazing long tune called "Magic (We Thank You)" – very much in the spirit of the first album's "Float On", with a slow intro, and a warm gliding approach that's really great! Other tracks include "The Time Is Now", "Let's Try Love", "Anything That Keeps You Satisfied", and a nice take on Bobby Franklin's "Whatever Your Sign".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some scrapes at the opening.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sweet & Sour Tears
ABC, 1964. Very Good+
Easily one of the best Ray Charles albums on ABC – if not one of the best Ray Charles albums of all-time. Ray's in his C&W mode here, but it's a bit more restrained than on other LPs, and is replaced here by a sophisticated style that works perfectly with his heartbreaking voice. Proof ... A stunning standout from Ray Charles' years on ABC Records – and a set that brings in a bit of hard-swinging jazz to the country-styled groove Ray was hitting at the time! An obscure vocal group that we know little about – but who have a strong harmony sound that reminds us of the best of the second wave of east coast groups from the mid 70s.
