Songs I Love To Sing

CD (Item 794738) Mercury/Universal, 1959 — Condition: Used
$9.99 ...

CD

Overlooked genius from Brook Benton – moving past his simple hit style here to work with arranger Belford Hendricks in a set of tunes that's a bit more "singerly". The tracks are mostly ballads and slower, sadder numbers – sung by Brook in a style that's slightly emotive, but never too much so – and with just the right touch of soul to keep things from going off track. Titles include "It's Been A Long Long Time", "Lover Come Back To Me", "I'll Be Around", "I Don't Know Enough About You", and "They Can't Take That Away From Me".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Perry & Sanlin

For Those Who Love
Capitol/Universal (Japan), 1980. Used
A fantastic moment from the Capitol Rare generation! The album is the first Capitol effort from Phil Perry & Kevin Sanlin – two excellent harmony soul singers who were part of the legendary Montclairs who recorded for Paula earlier in the 70s – and it's a slick batch of modern soul ... CD
Constellation/Universal, 1984. Used
A classic set from this big 80s group – and given the work that must have gone into the doos on the cover of this one, it's no surprise Klymaxx are in the Ladies Room – most likely still waiting for their hair to dry! The album's a batch of tightly-crafted mid 80s crossover soul – ... CD

Denise LaSalle

I'm So Hot
MCA/Universal (Japan), 1980. Used
Quite a different record than most of Denise's other southern blues sides – and a great little set with a warm clubby feel! The album's got arrangements by David Van DePitte, and a warm flowing dancefloor style that shows Denise as a whole new sort of singer than we might have expected from ... CD

Kool & The Gang

Love & Understanding
De-Lite/Universal (Japan), 1976. Used
Amazing work from Kool & The Gang – from a period when they were pushing past their tight early funky sound, into a super-dope mix of electronics and spacey jamming that is still pretty darn revolutionary today! Although you might think the album would be a bit disco by the date, it's ... CD

Millie Scott

Love Me Right
4th & Broadway/Universal (Japan), 1987. Used
A set recorded late in the career of Millie Scott – given that she contributed vocals to some hip girl groups in the 70s – but a standout solo moment too, and one that showed she could make some big waves on her own! The album's got a nice early urban sort of feel – echoes of ... CD

Bar-Kays

Propositions
Mercury (Japan), 1982. Used
Tightly grooving work from The Bar-Kays – a set that's light years away from the sound of their Memphis roots, but still plenty darn funky overall! The album's got a tight bass-heavy approach to the music – the well-forged ensemble sound that graced the later years of the Bar-Kays' ... CD

Village People

Cruisin
Casablanca/Universal (Japan), 1978. Used
A real breakout album for The Village People – thanks largely to the hit "YMCA", which had surprising play at the time – and has gone onto become one of those ballpark hits that everyone seems to sing completely un-self-consciously! The group are still working here in a New ... CD

Village People

Macho Man
Casablanca/Universal (Japan), 1978. Used
The macho aesthetic gets redefined for a whole new audience – as The Village People play with a pastiche of masculine images from daily life, all recast for the post-Stonewall generation! The group bring camp back firmly for the 70s – and are still one of the best-remembered mainstream ... CD
