Not the Black Ice you might know as a funk group from the 70s – but a killer deep house outfit from Chicago – part of that great second wave of Windy City house music that was much richer than the first! Black Ice seem to re-borrow club elements that the New York scene was using during the period – some of the New Jersey or Paradise Garage return to more soulful modes, after the earliest, stripped-down sound of house – just the right keyboard inflections, vocal refrains, or jazzy instrumental moments – used sparingly enough to be part of the Chicago legacy. Four tracks in all – "I'm Up In Heaven", "Depth Charge", "Vambience", and "A Different Space".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A killer single from Trouble Funk, on Sugar Hill, with the band's trade mark percussive riffing, and as you'd expect from go go, loads of nice fills and breakdowns all centered around a fat rolling bass pedal groove. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Manhattan, 1985. Near Mint- (pic cover)
A pretty great number from Bernard Wright – much smoother and more R&B than some of his work on GRP/Arista, but a great track with a wonderful 80s groove hook!
