Success

LP (Item 78975) Columbia, 1982 — Condition: Near Mint-

Before Martha Wash went on to success cutting vocals on soulful house numbers, she was one half of the Paul Jabara produced pop disco duo the Weather Girls. This album was probably their most successful, with the hit "It's Raining Men", plus "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair", "Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man For Christmas)", "Success", "Hungry For Love" and "Hope".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cutout hole and light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Luther Vandross

Any Love
Columbia, 1988. Very Good+
Lean, clean work from Luther Vandross – an album of gentle grooves and warmly romantic tones – offered up as part of Luther's hit run in the 80s! The sound is quite electric at times, but Vandross' vocals provide enough human warmth to offset the beats and keyboards – and given ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aretha Franklin

Soul Sister
Columbia, 1966. Very Good+
Aretha Franklin's definitely growing into her role as a soul sister here – a later date for Columbia Records that hints a bit at the sounds to come on Atlantic! AC
Columbia, 1985. Very Good+
The best of a handful of albums that the one-time Prince bassist put out in the early 80s – a record that made a splash via the great Prince-penned "The Dance Electric" – possibly a blessing and a curse for AC, as Prince was so huge at the time that the record going public was ... Quite a different sound than usual for Blue Magic – but quite nice too! This album's an obscure effort from the end of the 80s – recorded years after the group's initial hits in the 70s, but still with some tremendous harmonies that are very much at the top of their game! Tyrone Davis

Can't You Tell It's Me
Columbia, 1979. Very Good+
Fantastic mellow soul from Tyrone Davis – a great reminder that his vocals were still some of the burningest in 70s soul – sounding especially great in a record like this! Polydor, 1973. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A masterpiece of funky soul – and one of the greatest albums of the early 70s!
