I Love The Life I Live

LP (Item 78676) Columbia, Early 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

A real standout set from Mose – one of his few early sides for Columbia, and a great one at that! The album alternates between vocal and instrumental tunes – both handled with a rootsy flourish that's every bit the best Allison sound, before it became all overdone and cliched. The set's got lots of nice originals, and titles include "I Love The Life I Live", "News", "Fools Paradise", "Mad With You", "Path", and "Night Ride".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original 6 eye pressing. Back cover has a small bit of marker, but front looks great.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ramblin' With Mose
Prestige, 1958. Very Good
A pivotal album for Mose Allison – and one of the first records to ever feature his voice, even if only on one track! During the 50s, Allison was mostly known for his work as a bop-styled pianist – on records by Stan Getz and others – but at the end of the decade, he really ... LP, Vinyl record album

Young Man Mose
Prestige, 1958. Very Good
Tremendous early work from the great Mose Allison – a Prestige album that captures Mose when he was coming off some straighter jazz years as a pianist, but also working to discover his own unique groove as well! Mose Alive
Atlantic, 1966. Near Mint-
One of Mose's mid 60s albums for Atlantic – recorded live, with a bit more of a hip flair than some of his earlier work for Prestige and Columbia, but still with those great vocals that went onto influence a generation of beatnik jazz singers. Mose has more than a bit of New Orleans in his ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lambert, Hendricks & Ross Sing Ellington
Columbia, Early 60s. Very Good+
Although Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross started out their career singing vocalese versions of Basie tunes, they do a pretty darn great job here with Ellington – in fact, maybe even better, given the sophistication of the tracks. And while the album lacks some of the whimsy of the wonderful ... LP, Vinyl record album

An excellent collection of Billie's 30s work for Columbia Records – featuring 3LPs worth of material, represented with much better sound than the original 78 rpm release of the songs. Rushing Lullabies
Columbia, Late 50s. Near Mint-
A killer album by Jimmy – and certainly one of his best later records!
