Johnny Get Angry

LP (Item 78597) Warner, 1962 — Condition: Near Mint-
Dreamy girl pop from the young Joanie Sommers – a set that's got the lady singing in a style that's a bit more chartbound than some of her later recordings, with lots of cool and groovy backings that give the album a wonderful sense of pep – and a slight undercurrent of sex as well! This balance is perfectly summed up in the title cut – Sommers' excellent hit single "Johnny Get Angry", which is practically the epitome of the girl pop sound of the time – yet better than most other folks could touch. Other titles are all great too – and tunes include "Shake Hands With A Fool", "Mean To Me", "The Piano Boy", "One Boy", "Since Randy Moved Away", and "Seems Like Long Long Ago".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Scandinavian Shuffle
Warner, 1960. Near Mint-
Very groovy work from one of Sweden's hippest jazz singers! Nina Simone

At The Village Gate
Colpix, 1961. Very Good
An album recorded relatively early in the career of singer Nina Simone – but a set that already shows the very unique approach that would make her a legend by the time the 60s moved on! Even the very first tune is a stunner – a haunting reworking of the favorite "Just In Time" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Modern Sound Of Mr B
Mercury, 1964. Very Good
Well, we don't know if Mr B could ever be considered "modern", but this is a pretty groovy batch of 60s pop tunes – like "Mister Kicks", "People", "Wanted", "Wives & Lovers", and "A Beautiful Friendship" – all done to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Could anyone ever utter a sexier line than "Don't go to strangers, come to me?" We think not, and it's material like that that makes the album a real killer from Etta Jones – one of her best from the 60s, cut when she was really developing her skills as a vocalist, but still had ... Decca, 1955. Very Good
A cool session for Decca that has Carmen McRae's vocals flowing out wonderfully amidst some very haunting backings!
