Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One of the best solos singles by Johnny Bristol! "Love Takes Tears" is an excellent mellow soul number – built around a groove that's almost like "Love's Theme" by Barry White, but graced with warm vocals by Johnny that give the tune a very catchy hook! "Go On & ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Love Land/Sorry Charlie
Warner, 1969. Very Good-
One of the biggest singles by Charles Wright – and backed with a nice b-side! "Love Land" is a great loping vocal soul cut – a lot sweeter than your average cut by the Watts Rhythm Band, but very catchy and very nice, too! "Sorry Charlie" is an instrumental – ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Karen, Mid 60s. Very Good-
One of the hardest soul hits of the 60s! The cut's got a rolling piano and bass groove that's simply sublime – made even better because the horns didn't show up for the session, so the vocals and piano carry all the grooves, making the track work harder than most of its contemporaries from ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

A fantastic funky number from Syl! "Don't Give It Away" has a verse that makes it sound like an answer to "It's Your Thing" – with vamping guitars and horns that would make the Isley Brothers proud, and which would also leave them wishing they could sing as great as Syl! ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
AVI, 1976. Very Good-
Nice early stuff from El Coco – with more of a funky sound than later work! "Let's Get it Together" is a nice club groover, stretched out to 6 minutes here – with some great keyboards drifting in and out of midtempo beats – almost in a P&P sort of mode, but a bit ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

An excellent hard-to-find track by Lyn Collins! "Me & My Baby" has a wonderful gospelly intro, similar to "Message to the Soul Sisters", which then leaps into a great groove with a nice hard soul hook! The flip has sort of a nice Muscle Shoals-ish sound, with some good ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
