Colors – Original Soundtrack

LP (Item 7786) Warner, 1988 — Condition: Very Good
Also available
Ice T, MC Shan, Big Daddy Kane, & Others — Colors – Original Soundtrack (magenta vinyl pressing) ... LP 19.99

One of the first classic hip hop movie soundtracks of the late 80s, and a motherlode of great cuts! As divisive, hard hitting and uncompromising as the movie was, the Colors soundtrack does a great job of delivering on the tone with Ice T's title track and theme some, a snapshot of mid-to-late 80s classic rap, funk from Rick James and more. A time capsule for sure, but with tracks that are vital to this day. Marley Marl produced the majority of these cuts, and this was the early days of the Cold Chillin/Warner alliance, and titles include "Paid In Full (7 minute Cold Cut remix)" by Eric B & Rakim, "Butcher Shop" by Kool G Rap, "Colors" by Ice T, "Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste" by M.C. Shan, and "Go On Girl" by Roxanne Shante. More by Salt N Pepa, Big Daddy Kane, 7A3, and Rick James.  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In the original shrink with hype sticker. Vinyl is in amazing shape, except for a mark that clicks on "Butcher Shop" and "Mad Mad World".)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A fairly straight orchestral score by John Barry – written for this early 60s film that starred George Segal, Tom Courneay, and Denholm Elliott. A pretty straight soundtrack – for a pretty weird little movie, one that was a late directorial effort by Ida Lupino, and which starred Hayley Mills as a bad girl in a nunnery, and Rosalind Russell as one of the nuns!
