Second Edition

LP (Item 77681) Island, 1979 — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold

One of the greatest moments ever from the mighty John Lydon – a record that maybe blows away all other albums by Public Image – and which also stands strongly next to the work of the Sex Pistols, but in a very different way! Lydon is quite far from punk rock roots here – and instead works in this bassy, dubby, trippy blend that's served up strongly by the bass work of Jah Wobble – very influenced by Jamaican music, but playing in a style that's got a very different vibe – and quite different from more familiar late 70s attempts to mix punk and reggae. Instead, Wobble and Lydon use the mode as this dark wash of sound – sparkling with weird guitar sounds from Keith Levine, and layered with these haunting lyrics on madness and paranoia – much more dark poetry than anything Lydon ever gave us. The track "Poptones" is worth the price of the record alone – and other tiles include "Swan Lake", "No Birds", "Chant", "No Radio", "Albatross", "Careering", and "Memories".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(US Island/Warner pressing. Cover has some wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

No Pussyfooting
Island (UK), 1973. Near Mint-
The first appearance of the Frippertronics delay line built by Fripp and Eno out of a couple of tape decks. Somehow even though this is nearly pure process music, it manages to sound far from dated, cliched or boring – ambient bliss meets only slightly noodly prog guitar in a hall of mirrors. ... A further deepening of the Spooky Tooth sound – on an album that seems to have a headier approach to the lyrical themes, which is also echoed by the vocals of Gary Wright, and the energy of the rest of the group! My god, what a record! This one's genius through and through – a set that sometimes gets eclipsed in the brilliance to come, but which is easily one of our favorites ever by Steely Dan! A great early 70s entry from The Beach Boys – and a record that's nicely balanced between mature pop tunes and more experimental moments!
