Used CD Grade

We use the all-encompassing grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or packaging details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the CD. This might include, but isn't limited to, scratches, tracks that skip, case/insert damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Kenny Barron

What If?
Enja/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1986. Used
Although Kenny Barron's always a heck of a great musician on his own or in a piano trio, we're especially partial to his work in groups with horn players – and this album is a great example of that preference! Kenny first came to fame working with Dizzy Gillespie in the 60s, and since that ... CD

Franco Ambrosetti

With Franco on trumpet, Mike Brecker on tenor, John Clark on French horn, Kenny Kirkland on piano, Buster Williams on bass, and Daniel Humair on drums. CD

John Scofield

Shinola
Enja (Germany), 1982. Used
A wonderful setting for the guitar of John Scofield – one that really brings out all the rich chromes of his early work on the instrument! The group's a trio – with Adam Nussbaum on drums and Steve Swallow on bass – and in a way, there's a vibe here that reminds us of some of the ... CD

Barry Harris

Live At Dug
Enja (Germany), 1995. Used
Barry Harris recorded live in Tokyo – working at the intimate Dug nightclub, with backing from Japanese players Kunimitsuj Inaba on bass and Fumio Watanabe on drums! The style here is in the warmer side of the Harris spectrum – sometimes introspective, sometimes a bit more grooving ... CD

Sachi Hayasaka & Stir Up

2.26
Enja (Germany), 1994. Used
The group here is named Stir Up, and that's definitely what they do alongside the soprano and alto of Sachi Hayasaka – often hitting these full, intense passages of sound – sometimes free, sometimes more rhythmic – served up with a lineup that includes Tatsuya Sato on tenor, ... CD

Tommy Flanagan/Red Mitchell/Elvin Jones

Super Session
Enja (Germany), 1980. Used
A well-titled super session from pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Red Mitchell, and drummer Elvin Jones – and one with a bit more sense of surprise than similar all-star trio outings from the 80s! There's a looseness here that's a good antidote to some of the more tightly-produced Japanese ... CD

Odean Pope

Ninety Six
Enja/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1995. Used
We always love the tenor of Odean Pope, but we seem to love it especially strongly in a setting like this – a lean trio format that really lets Pope step out and do his thing – carving all these strong, bold solos over the lean backing from Tyrone Brown on bass an Mickey Roker on drums! ... CD

Mike Longo

Awakening
Mainstream/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1972. Used
Killer electric piano work from the mighty Mike Longo – recorded at a time when he was definitely at the height of his powers! The album sports a rare Mainstream Records appearance from James Moody – who was a frequent partner of Longos on sessions at the time – particularly on ... CD

Morris Nanton

Roberta
Warner (Japan), 1958. Used
Lost lyrical sounds from Morris Nanton – a player who only recorded a handful of albums, all of them great! Nanton's an unusual player – in that at one level, he's got this heavy left-hand style that's almost in a soul jazz mode – but also still manages some of the lighter, more ... CD
