Suddenly

LP (Item 77143) Warner, 1983 — Condition: Very Good+
Big ol' bass from Marcus Miller – but also some sweet keyboards and great vocals too – all wrapped up in a set that's really got Miller at the height of his powers! Marcus wonderfully skirts the worlds of soul and fusion for the record – and mostly creates a tight groove on his own, even the vocals – but sometimes brings in key help from artists who include Mike Mainieri on vibes, David Sanborn on alto, and Ralph McDonald on percussion. A few other singers come into the mix to support Marcus' lead – including Luther Vandross and Yvonne Lewis – but he's got a warmth that grooves right alongside his instrumentation, even without any help. Titles include "Just For You", "Much Too Much", "Suddenly", "Just What I Needed", and "Be My Love".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

David Sanborn

Sanborn
Warner, 1976. Near Mint-
A damn great early moment from David Sanborn – a record that really shows the reedman at his best – working some tight solos over soulful backings in the same 70s manner as Tom Scott or Wilton Felder! Like both of those players, David's got the chops to step out in front of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Tutu
Warner, 1986. Near Mint-
A nice collaboration between Miles and Marcus Miller from the latter part of Miles career. As much of the recording here is overdubbed, with many multiple instruments played by Miller, it doesn't have the improvised vibe of Miles' classic performances, but the songwriting and arrangements are head ... Brian Auger & Julie Tippetts

Encore
Warner, 1978. Near Mint-
An overdue reunion for Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll (now billed as Tippetts) – and a late 70s session that sounds quite a bit different than their mod soul of the 60s! The format here is still somewhat in a soul-based vein – but the sound is much more 70s, and much more "adult&qu ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jack McDuff

Honeydripper
Prestige, 1961. Very Good+
One of the records that put a young Brother Jack McDuff on the map – and a perfect example of the rougher R&B roots that first emerged in his early work on the Hammond! The session's got a much more down-n-dirty feel than some of McDuff's tighter 60s quartet work – and offers a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Near Mint-
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects!
