Some Of My Favorites

LP (Item 767750) RCA, 1957 — Condition: Near Mint-

A mixture of vocal tunes from Matt Dennis and instrumentals from Red Norvo – all presented by early TV legend Dave Garroway!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono pressing with deep groove.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sonny Rollins

Bridge
RCA, 1962. Near Mint-
A landmark album from Sonny Rollins – one that marked his comeback in the early 60s, after a brief period of retirement, and which also initiated a string of incredible recordings with guitarist Jim Hall. RCA, 1966. Near Mint-
Easy grooving magic from Paul Horn – a record that has his exotic flute work paired up with arrangements by Oliver Nelson – making for a session that's got a lot more punch than usual for Horn – in a mode that we like quite a lot! The flute's in the lead on all tracks, but the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lonnie Liston Smith

Renaissance
RCA, 1976. Very Good+ Gatefold
A massively sweet groover from Lonnie and the Cosmic Echoes – smoother and warmer than some of his earlier albums, with a really soulful fusion vibe! RCA, 1955. Very Good+
Reed player Hal McKusick has always been one of our favorite talents from the 50's, but he always seems to be overlooked by the history books because he's not easy to fit in with any of the larger schools of jazz. With his beautiful measured style on alto and clarinet, he certainly wasn't a bopper ... LP, Vinyl record album

BYG/Actuel (France), 1969. Very Good Gatefold
Excellent work from trombonist Grachan Moncur III – famous for his 60s work on Blue Note and with Archie Shepp, sounding as great here as he did on those recordings! Roy Ayers

Virgo Vibes
Atlantic, 1967. Very Good
A far-reaching early gem from Roy Ayers – a set that's much more jazz-based than his later work, and a record that has him touching base with the Blue Note and Strata East sides of the jazz spectrum! The lineup here is incredibly hip – a mix of players that includes a young Charles ... LP, Vinyl record album
