More great soul music than we ever hoped to find in a single place – and a massive 6CD collection that looks at the key year of 1965 at Motown Records! The package is every bit as wonderful and thorough as the others in this series – with a whopping 166 songs collected in a lavish, full-color book that features nearly 150 pages of notes, photos, and wonderful images from the 60s! And as with other sets, the ultra-cool package even features a replica 45 stuck inside the front cover – a rare vinyl treasure that's almost as great as the CDs. But over and above the packaging, the music's the real thing to rave about here – as 1965 has Motown growing into even new levels of maturity and quality – as demonstrated by the work here by artists who include Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Chris Clark, Frank Wilson, The Elgins, The Miracles, Earl Van Dyke, The Marvelettes, Barbara McNair, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Jimmy Ruffin, The Dalton Boys, The Four Tops, Brenda Holloway, Little Lisa, Richard Anthony, The Lewis Sisters, Danny Day, The Contours, The Vows, The Hit Pack, Kim Weston, The Freeman Brothers, JR Walker, and many others! All singles offered up with both a and b-sides!  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Limited edition.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Stevie Wonder

Hotter Than July
Tamla/Motown, 1980. Used
A bit smoother than early days, but still very nice and soulful – and did we expect any less from Stevie? The record's got a nicely flanged-out soul groove – with a style that kind of expands on the vocal and keyboard production of the early 70s, taking the groove towards a sound that ... CD

Further genius from James Brown at the start of the 70s – a record that's starting to show some of the more open-ended grooves he'd explore with the JBs on their own albums – longer, stretched-out tracks that are way more than simple funk and soul! There's a sense of freewheeling ... CD
