CD (Item 764560) Prestige, Late 50s — Condition: Used

CD

✈
Plenty of jazz giants here – some of the biggest heavyweights of John Coltrane's generation, working here either as leaders of the dates, or sidemen on some of Coltrane's earliest recordings for Prestige! The package features material originally issued under the names of Miles Davis, Tadd Dameron, Red Garland, and Thelonious Monk – with other tracks headed by Coltrane himself – a great collection of Prestige sides that runs for over an hour in length. Players include Garland or Monk on piano, Davis on trumpet, Donald Byrd or Wilbur Harden on trumpets, Paul Chambers or Wilbur Ware on bass, and Jimmy Cobb or Art Taylor on drums. Titles include "Airegin", "Mating Call", "Monk's Mood", "Soft Lights & Sweet Music", "Russian Lullaby", "Lover", "Billie's Bounce", "Invitation", "Trinkle Trinkle", and "I Love You".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

The title may be a simple one, but the record really marks a key point in John Coltrane's development – an embrace of the newer freedoms allowed to him at Atlantic Records, but in a way that's a bit more subtle than some of his other work for the label! At one level, the record moves at the ... CD

Impulse, 1964. Used
Sharp-edged John Coltrane at his best – a record that we'd rank right up there with Love Supreme, and which is a key transition point in Coltrane's musical ideas! There's a very strong edge to Coltrane's tone here – and even on the mellower ballads, he plays with a sound not always ... CD
