A pretty strange album of "hip" fairytales and fables, recorded by jazz DJ/hipster Al Jazzbo Collins, alongside a group featuring Steve Allen, Hal Blaine, and Terry Gibbs. The approach is a bit square, but the album's also got the appeal of those late 50s beatnik sessions – with recitation up front, and jazz in the background. Titles include "Sonny Cool", "The Three Little Pigs", "The Power Of The Flower", and "The Swearing In Of The Bandidos". (Original orange and black label stereo pressing. Cover has a cutout hole.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sing The Best Of Irving Berlin
EmArcy, 1957. Very Good
A great album that pairs these two great singers together for some of Berlin's popular tunes. They're accompanied by a full orchestra and the singers compliment each other nicely especially where Vaughan can match Eckstine's low tones. The tracks include "Isn't This A Lovely Day", "Al ... Yipes, this must have been a clear indication of just how popular the show really was! The album's little more than bits lifted off the TV soundtrack – with bits that include "Why God Made Hands", "Sweety Pie Roger", "VD Day", "God is Black", and " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Grass
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good
Don't miss this one! For years, we passed this one by, thinking it an impure version of the great jazz duo Jackie & Roy. Now, though, we realize that it's one of their masterpieces, and takes their hip vocal sound into a new dimension, with cool L.A. production from the late 60's, and some ...
