Portavoz

LP (Item 761828) Flying Fish, 1986 — Condition: Near Mint-
...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Counterpoint, 1958. Near Mint-
A great little album of percussion grooves – hidden under a package that looks like it's going to be a lot more rootsy, but which ends up sounding like some of the hipper conga-heavy sessions on labels like Liberty or GNP from the late 50s. Jackson plays much of the percussion, but there's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bala Miller & The Great Music Pirameeds Of Africa

Pyramids
Afrodisia (Nigeria), 1979. Near Mint-
Bala Miller's got a great pan-African group here – one that's more from the western side of the scene, despite the pyramids mentioned in their name – with players hailing from Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon – all coming together in a mighty righteous style! The music is fairly ... LP, Vinyl record album
Nyege Nyege Tapes, Late 1940s/1950s/Early 1960s. Near Mint-
Highly percussive sounds from the kingdom of Buganda – an area that predates the formation of modern day Uganda, and which has an equally ancient sound to its music! The work here is served up on a variety of instruments – percussion, drums, flutes, and stringed instruments – but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ekuka Morris Sirikiti

Ekuka
Nyege Nyege Tapes (Uganda), Late 1970s/1980s. Near Mint- 2LP
Mighty raw work on thumb piano from Ekuka Morris Sirikiti – mostly pulled from radio broadcasts in northern Uganda, and served up here with a very timeless vibe! Most tracks feature vocals and percussion alongside Ekuka's lead instrument – which itself has some of the chromatic warmth ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gaston Dino Ciarlo

Los Tanos
Sondor (Uruguay), 1983. Very Good Gatefold
Very moody work from the Uruguayan scene – mostly acoustic guitar and vocals, with some light arrangements from Richard Kyriam from time to time – which nicely underscores the dark currents in Dino's vocals! LP, Vinyl record album

Shin Joong Hyun & Yup Juns

Shin Joong Hyun & Yup Juns
Jigu (South Korea), 1974. Near Mint-
A heady set from mid 70s South Korea – the debut album from a mighty edgey little trio! The album's not nearly as psych as some of the other Korean efforts from the period – as the group's got a tight groove on most numbers, with a definite funk influence on the drums and bass – ... Epic, 1968. Near Mint-
Kind of hard to put a finger on the style of Jho Archer – which is probably why they used the phrase "many talents" in the title of this one! Jho's got a bit of Caribbean in his vocals – traces of calypso and Haitian soul, inflected with a hipper French approach to the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fever
Polydor, 1979. Very Good
A great little album by Roy Ayers – one that features none of his hits, which means lots of fresh material – and which has great examples of both sides of Roy's talents at the time! The dancefloor side of Roy kicks in with "Love Will Bring Us Back Together", an extremely ... LP, Vinyl record album
