Top Hits of Today

LP (Item 7612) Contessa, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold

No players listed, but one of those groovy albums of studio guys, running through pop and soul hits of the day, in a "hitmaker" fashion that was either designed to cash in on folks who went to the record store but didn't look at the cover – or underground funk and soul fans like us, who always pick up these records in the hopes of some interesting breaks or funky instrumentals. This album's not that heavy in that department, but it's still a pretty great batch of cuts – with a few original numbers, and a sound that's a bit more "out" than usual. Cuts include "Our Man Hendrix", "Are You Experienced", "What Else", "Wild Times" and "Uh Uh Uh".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Family
Paisley Park, 1985. Very Good Gatefold
A great lost album of 80s soul, and one of the best side projects that Prince ever worked on! Keep On Movin'
Virgin, 1989. Very Good
Essential! When this one came out at the end of the 80's, it not only restored our faith in modern soul music, but it also drew the world's attention to the rich, rich talents that had been bubbling under in London's mid 80's rare groove scene.
