Wordpower 2: Directrix (Mo Wax pressing)

CD (Item 753713) Mo Wax, 2000 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

The Mo Wax version of Divine Styler's third LP, with a super fancy fold out sci-fi cover design! As always, the Styler unleashes his sharp, intellectual rhymes in a complex vernacular, following up on the promise of the original Word Power LP, without the weird excursions he'd dabbled in on Spiral Walls, with a nanotech approach for the new millenium. 18 cuts on the first two LPs, including "Satan Dynasty Killer", "Triple Irons", "One Self Duel", "Before Mecca", "Directrix", "Nova" and "Make It Plain", plus a third album with 15 instrumentals too!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print, please note that the sleeve has some wear & some clear tape on the cover.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

ABB, 2002. Used
The debut from North Carolina organic hip hop crew Little Brother – an unexpectly strong and soulful effort in the vein of the Roots, mid-career Tribe Called Quest, and early Slum Village! The trio of Phonte, Pooh, and 9th Wonder have been kicking around Durham, NC and the southern hip hop ... CD
Red Hook, 1999. Used
"5 years" – starts off with some funny excerpts of interviews with people about what hip hop will be like in five years then goes into a rhyme about going to a hip hop show in 2004 – sort of like "I Used To Love HER" in reverse. The LP is filled with skits that ... CD

Bad Boy, 1994. Used
A nice mid 90s hip hop album that seems to have become a bit of a bench warmer, though we'd say it deserves starting status for the class of '94. One of Easy Mo Bee's best set of tracks, and nice rhymes from Craig Mack! Includes the classic "Flava In Ya Ear", the cautionary "When ... CD

Herbie Hancock

Speak Like A Child
Blue Note, 1968. Used
A very sweet, and oft-overlooked session that has Herbie mixing a nice dose of lyricism into his usual soul jazz approach from the 60s! The sound's a bit farther-reaching than on some of Herbie's smaller group sessions – and the record features a sextet that includes Ron Carter, Mickey Roker ... CD
Blue Note, 1957. Used
One of the greatest Sonny Rollins records ever! The set is a legendary batch of trio tracks that feature Sonny working in a format that is incredibly free for the time, and which show him as more of a modernist than a bopper – although his solos are still pretty darn fantastic from a bop ... CD

Billy Cobham

Spectrum
Atlantic/Rhino, 1973. Used
A very full-on hard heavy fusion album! Drummer Billy Cobham lays down some massive hard beats, while Tommy Bolin wails away on guitar, Jan Hammer pounds on electric piano, and Lee Sklar noodles on electric bass. 2 cuts feature a different lineup with Joe Farrell and Jimmy Owens – but the ... CD
