Get Out Of The Car

LP (Item 748636) Ace (UK), Late 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
Classic work from this powerhouse of the west coast R&B scene in the 50s – with titles that include the seminal "Oh Oh Get Out Of The Car" – plus "The Big Break", "Crazy Lover", "Rockin Man", "Mad About You", and "Yama Yama Pretty Mama".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jimmy Beasley

Jimmy's House Party
Ace (UK), Late 1950s/Early 1960s. Very Good+
Modern Records sessions by Jimmy Beasley – done for the famous LA label, but all recorded in Beasley's home town of New Orleans – with a very raw, early Crescent City vibe! Many of these cuts were done with the group of Dave Bartholomew at Cosimo's Studios – and they're filled ... LP, Vinyl record album

Teen Queens

Rock Everybody
Ace (UK), Late 50s. Near Mint-
The Teen Queens were a hip R&B duo who deserve a lot more credit than their silly name might make you think. They had a style that was part raw R&B, and part 60s girl group, years before the girl group format was around long enough to become a cliche! LP, Vinyl record album
Ace, Late 50s/Early 60s. Near Mint-
Much more soul than rock – a special collection done by the Ace Mississippi label for the New Orleans World's Fair in 1984 – featuring work from Huey Smith, Little Booker, Eddie Bo, Chuck Carbo, Piano Red, Frankie Ford, Earl King, Joe Tex, The Clowns, and Dr John! LP, Vinyl record album

Ace (UK), Late 1950s/Early 1960s. Near Mint-
Amazing vocal work from The Olympics – a great little group who bridged the gap between doo wop and 60s soul – and who had a pyrotechnic style that only The Coasters could match! Like The Coasters, The Olympics often mixed in a good deal of humor with their tunes – not only in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jackie Wilson

Reet Petite

Minnie Riperton

Perfect Angel
Epic, 1974. Near Mint-
Minnie Riperton's first album for Epic – and the record that broke her from a hip Chicago underground artist into one of the seventies' biggest female soul stars! The record moves past the baroque soul of Minnie's early years with Rotary Connection and Charles Stepney – and hits a mix ... LP, Vinyl record album

James Brown

Bodyheat
Polydor, 1976. Very Good+
An enduring classic from James Brown – quite possibly the strongest of his late 70s albums, and a record that nicely balances the harder funk of the early part of the decade with a more sophisticated style that almost gets slightly jazzy at times! The vocals are planted strongly at the top ... LP, Vinyl record album

Isaac Hayes

Shaft
Enterprise, 1971. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A landmark album that hardly needs any introduction – as it's one of the most famous soundtracks, if not soul records, of the 70s! Isaac Hayes had already surprised music fans with the sophistication of his first few solo albums, which had been issued before this one – but with Shaft, ... LP, Vinyl record album

O'Jays

Ship Ahoy
Philadelphia International, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
A pivotal album from The O'Jays – and an undeniable Philly classic! The record was the third the group cut for the Philadelphia International label – but it was really the first one that pushed their strong righteous soul agenda, sort of a mix of message-oriented lyrics and heavy soul ... A&M/CTI, 1968. Sealed
Fantastic work from Tamiko Jones – one of the more enigmatic soul singers of her generation! Brothers Johnson

Right On Time
A&M, 1977. Near Mint-
A funky classic from the Brothers Johnson – sweet funky soul, done with a polish few could match!
