Eddie's Back In Town

LP (Item 748620) Krona, 1982 — Condition: Near Mint-

An obscure later album – a quartet date recorded by Frank Wright on his return to the US, as a tribute to the late Eddie Jefferson! Frank is on tenor – with Richard Williams on bass, Tony Smith on piano, and Gregory Bufford on drums – and all titles are original, and include "T&W", "Two For John", "Rotterdam Blues", "13th & 3rd", and "Stoveman".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some light wear, but is nice overall.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sandra (Germany), 1979. Near Mint-
A great little album from Frank Wright – pretty soulful, with an inside vibe that's more in a 70s spiritual soul jazz mode than some of Wright's other work. The title's a pretty strange one – as is the bluesy title track, which features Wright vocalizing a bit. The other numbers are ... LP, Vinyl record album

At Work In Europe
Prestige, 1969. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Great US issue of 2 different albums that Webster recorded in Europe near the end of his life – Blow Ben Blow and For The Guv'nor. Somethin' Special
Pacific Jazz, 1962. Very Good
Two of LA's leading soul jazz luminaries – playing head to head in an interesting session that mixes lines on piano and organ! McCann gives the set a good rollicking rhythm, and Holmes' increasing skill on the Hammond makes the set blow out over the top – and the pair get backing by ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note/Applause, 1967. Sealed
An unusual session from the heart of Lou Donaldson's return to Blue Note in the late 60s – a mellower date that stands in strong contrast to his funkier albums of the time! As you might guess from the title, there's a lusher feel going on here – one that has Lou's alto sax augmented by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tomorrow Is the Question!
Contemporary, 1959. Sealed
Tomorrow may be the question, but the record screams "today!" – and even this many years after its recording, this early set by Ornette Coleman has an energy and presence that cannot be denied!
