Noir Et Blanc

LP (Item 747880) Crammed (Belgium), 1983 — Condition: Very Good+

A seminal global crossover album from the European scene of the early 80s – a studio meeting between Algerian composer Hector Zazou and Zairean singer Bony Bikaye – all peppered with electronics from CY1! Years before anyone was using the term "world music", or trying to remix global grooves for the dancefloor, Zazou and Bikaye came together with a sound that transcended its roots through an artful exploration of sound, space, and tone – augmented by additional instrumentation from Fred Frith, Mark Hollander, and a range of other experimental players. Titles include "Mangungu", "Munpie Wa Kati", "Dju Ya Feza", "Eh Yaye", "Mama Lenvo", "Keba", "Woa", and "M'Pasi Ya M'Pamba". CD also features the bonus tracks "M'Pasi Ya M'Pamba (rmx)" and "Eh Yaye (rmx)".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Belgian reissue presssing with black bar on front cover. Includes the booklet and printed inner sleeve.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Afro-psychedelia from Chrissy Zebby Tembo – a set recorded in the Zambian scene of the early 70s, and served up in a blend of fuzzy guitar, funky drums, and some really unusual vocals! An album that definitely lives up to its title – thanks to a strong embrace of funky boogie styles, but served up here with a sweet Nigerian twist!
