Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Ike Quebec

Blue & Sentimental
Blue Note, 1961. Used
Moody late night tenor musings by one of Blue Note's greatest talents of the early 60s! The album's a classic through and through – and the tenor of the mighty Ike Quebec is set up nicely in a solid quartet with Grant Green on guitar, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. ... CD
Columbia, 1960. Used
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! The album's got a wonderfully unified feel – as it begins with long compositions that have a distinct Spanish-tinge (and not a Latin-tinge, which is an ... CD

John Coltrane

Paris Concert
Pablo/OJC, 1961. Used
A great addition to the live material the John Coltrane Quartet recorded for Impulse Records in the early 60s – long, live tracks from a Parisian concert, with performances that are extremely long and open-ended! The group isn't totally free – as free as they'd be on some of their ... CD
Fantasy, Late 50s. Used
Pretty amazing work from one of the greatest under-rated talents of 50s modern jazz! John LaPorta was a brilliant multi-instrumentalist who's probably best known for his work with Mingus in the mid 50s Jazz Workshop years, and for his earlier sides with Woody Herman – but it's on records ... CD

Herbie Hancock

Sound System
Columbia, 1984. Used
The follow up to Herbie's groundbreaking hit album Future Shock. There's some rehashing of themes here, with the remake of "Rockit" called "Hardrock" here – basically the same number with some heavy guitar added and a few different solos – plus similar numbers that ... CD

Jackie McLean

Demon's Dance
Blue Note, 1967. Used
A pivotal session from the late 60s – one that has Jackie pulling things back a bit from his "new thing" period, and turning towards the spiritual soulful groove that would characterize his early 70s work! The album bristles with excitement – still very much informed by a ... CD
Prestige/OJC, 1953. Used
Hard to get work by Clifford Brown – 1953 recordings originally done in Europe for the Vogue label! Brown's working here in front of a Parisian trio that features Henri Renaud, Pierre Michelot, and Benny Bennett. There's 12 tracks in all, with multiple takes of "I Can Dream, Can't I?&qu ... CD

Weldon Irvine

Sinbad
RCA/Get On Down, 1976. Used
Weldon Irvine's last album for a major label – and a key set that marks the debut of the legendary Don Blackman! Irvine's still very much in charge of the session, but Blackman's emerging here with the strength that would show up on his later soul sessions – singing lead vocals on some ... CD

Cymande

Cymande
Collectables, 1972. Used
Funky heavy dubby funky grooves! This is the definitive compilation of one of the 70's quirkiest funk groups, the massive Cymande – a British group who brought together African rhythms, West Indian dub, and American funk! The CD brings together 17 tracks from their 3 LPs for the Janus label ... CD

Andy Bey

Shades Of Bey
Evidence, 1998. Used
A fantastic comeback moment for the great Andy Bey – a singer who did incredible work in the 60s and 70s – then disappeared from the recording scene for awhile! The set's a compelling batch of jazz vocal tracks that show Andy reinventing himself for a whole new generation of jazz ... CD
