LP, Vinyl record album

One of a set of legendary recordings done by Ind in the 50s – back at a time when he was the bass player in Lee Konitz group, but also a budding young sound engineer, with a good ear for a jazz session! The tunes feature Mosca and Ind in piano/bass duets – recorded live in New York with a very open and swinging feel. Titles include "Brightwater", "Sal's Line", "Groovin High", "Upwelling", and "Background Music". (Cover has some gloss separation at the bottom.)  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Kelly At Midnite
Vee Jay, 1960. Very Good-
Midnite is right – as the session's a moody, mellow late nite one – just spare trio material by Wynton, played in a group that features Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums! The titles are all nice and long – and really let Kelly stretch out on the keys – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ya Ya (Argo)
Argo, 1964. Very Good+
One of the most soulful sessions ever cut by tenorist Budd Johnson – recorded with a cool combo that features Al Williams on some smoking Hammond – plus bass and drums. Lots of tracks are originals – and titles include the jazz dance groover "Ya Ya" – plus "Ex ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fathead Comes On
Atlantic, 1962. Very Good
Early work from David Fathead Newman – so early, the cover has him listed as "Dave" on the front! The album steps nicely off Newman's early work with Ray Charles – and does plenty to establish him as a leader on his own – putting Newman's bold, soulful tenor right ... LP, Vinyl record album
