James Dean Story

LP (Item 738726) Capitol, 1957 — Condition: Very Good
Originally: 6.99
A mix of jazzy moments and more emotive passages from Leith Stevens – packaged here in a nice David Stone Martin cover!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Promo yellow label pressing. Cover has surface wear, promo stamp, radio station sticker, name in pen. Label has ink stamp.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Elmer Bernstein

Staccato
Capitol, 1959. Very Good-
A great lost crime jazz soundtrack – penned by Elmer Bernstein in the style of some of his best work from the 50s! There's a real Man With The Golden Arm feel here – as the orchestra rises and falls in a mode matching the Staccato title – and solos break out with a fluid and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nelson Riddle

Untouchables
Capitol, 1960. Very Good+
A surprisingly nice score from Riddle – and pretty different than most late 50s crime jazz LPs! There's a number of tracks on here that have a period setting, in keeping with the locale of the TV show – but there's others that are really wonderful orchestral numbers, shaded with the ... Roy Budd

Paper Tiger
Capitol, 1975. Near Mint-
One of the more orchestral of Roy Budd's scores from the 70's, but still with some nice moments that give a good focus to Roy's piano. The score was written for an Eastern thriller starring David Niven and Toshiro Mifune, and the tracks are a mix of easy and action themes – including "Ki ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lalo Schifrin

Cincinnati Kid
MGM, 1965. Near Mint-
This one's got a bluesy jazz approach – set by Ray Charles' version of the title theme, and followed through by Lalo's great instrumental tracks – which mix strings, soul, and just the right jazzy touches to keep things moving along with a subtle groove.
