She's Wrapped Too Tight (long, short)

12-inch (Item 73627) Salsoul, 1982 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

12-inch, Vinyl record

A nice little electro number by Edwin Birdsong – every bit as crazy as his best 70s work! The tune snaps and percolates with a nice little groove – almost breaking, with some electronic touches, a slight bit of rapping, and a dark approach to the production that makes the whole thing feel a bit spooky! We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Goldmine/Phiss Phizz
Philadelphia International, 1979. Near Mint-
Clubby work from Edwin Birdsong – with a funky groove that's a lot like Roy Ayers' work from the time! "Goldmine" is presented here in a nice long version – jazzily grooving over warm bassy-beats, picking up speed with some righteous party type lyrics sung by the group on the ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Salsoul, 1977. Very Good
Nice stuff! After coming out of the box as a heavier funk outfit in the early 70s, Ripple changed their tune for the disco years – stretching their groove into a warm clubby sound that's stayed classic for years and years! "Beat Goes On & On" is one of their greatest cuts from ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Chocolate City, 1975. Very Good
A rare promo single featuring "Rigor Mortis" – one of Cameo's best tracks ever! The cut's got a funk vamp on the intro that you'll recognize from sampling instantly – and the whole thing's a nicely compressed joint with a full-on sound that the band rarely ever duplicated! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Capitol, 1982. Very Good
One of George Clinton's biggest hits – and probably his last gasp on the charts in a major way. The cut's a logical extension of late 70s P-Funk – with more of the bass-popping 80s grooves and electro touches that Clinton had inspired in so many other funky groups at the time. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Virgin, 1988. Very Good
4 mixes of this classic bit of Detroit Techno – going over the top, into the mainstream, thanks to the lasting genius of Kevin Saunderson! 12-inch, Vinyl record

What can we say? "Ring My Bell" was one of the biggest crossover disco tracks of the late 70s – with a cool electronic groove on the beat, and lyrics and production by Frederick Knight, making the southern soul singer one of the more unlikely disco forces of the time. This 12" ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Festival, 1977. Near Mint-
"Mary Hartman" is a nice instrumental disco number – based on the theme to the odd little TV show from the 70s. "Pinada" is funkier – with some nice guitar at the beginning, which then steps into a punchy Latin-tinged number – still a bit clubby, but with more ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

What can we say? This is a classic! The track has a monster roller skating groove that's been sampled more than a few times over the years – but which still sounds incredible on its own! Both parts are great – and even though the single's pretty darn long, you still never want it to ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

At the time this was issued, these tracks had not yet been released, though they've subsequently shown up on a number of the expanded CD reissues that have been put out since this release.
