This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A fascinating little record by The Spinners – and a real contrast to some of their other Atlantic albums! The set has them stepping out of the tightly controlled studio sound of their Philly albums – still working with Thom Bell on production, but doing so in a freer sort of live ... An excellent smooth soul groover from Johnny Bristol! The album has Johnny stepping into a more sophisticated groove than he used on his early 70s albums for MGM – mixing together styles that sound a lot like those used by artists like Leroy Hutson or Leon Ware at the time, a mix of well-prod ... LP, Vinyl record album
Aretha Arrives in great style – and a mixture between her earlier vocal jazz years at Columbia, and her later southern soul sides of the 60s! Arif Mardin is already arranging Aretha's work at this point, and the backing group includes southern soul studio giants like Spooner Oldham, Tommy ... LP, Vinyl record album
Aretha's tour of the south continues – recording here at Atlantic's new home in Miami, with studio work from The Dixie Flyers, Dave Crawford, Roger Hawkins, Duane Allman, and Eddie Hinton – all very much in the tradition of the Muscle Shoals work that supported Aretha on earlier ... LP, Vinyl record album
Narada Michael Walden's first album – and a surprisingly complex approach to spiritual soul, handled with some great guest guitar work by Jeff Beck and Carlos Santana! The approach is somewhere between 70s rock fusion and smooth soul – done with a tight, professional style that ... LP, Vinyl record album
A silly title, but a great selection of grooves – and a record that features a few really nice clubby soul tracks from the Atlantic catalog – making a rare appearance on LP! Most of the work has a prime mid 70s Philly groove – no surprise, since Tom Moulton put together the set, ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the first ladies of soul music – served up here in a classic album of Atlantic Records singles from the 50s! As you'd guess from the title, the tunes are a mighty rocking batch of tracks – upbeat, hard-edged groovers that really show off Brown's strong vocal range – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great live album, with a definite jazzy feel – thanks to work from David Newman on tenor sax and Marcus Belgrave on trumpet! Titles include "The Right Time", "I Got A Woman", "Blues Waltz", "Hot Rod", "Sherry", and "Talkin Bout ... LP, Vinyl record album
Possibly the best instrumental album that James Brown cut for Smash! Unlike some of the other albums, this one features a set list that's mostly originals – and a number of tracks have a longer groove than usual, which lets James and the band stretch out instrumentally. Titles include " ... LP, Vinyl record album
Pure brilliance from The Futures – a group who were already a standout on the east coast vocal scene, but one who really took off once they met with the talents of Philadelphia International! The Gamble & Huff approach really opens up the sound of the group – taking their warm ... LP, Vinyl record album
Spanky's last album before her recent revival, a jazzy soulful effort cut for Westbound, with arrangements by Johnny Allen, and a nice moody mellow sound. The overall approach is quite different than most of her work with HB Barnum, but Spanky's voice is still in great shape, and Detroit soul ... LP, Vinyl record album
