Encore Of Foot Stompin Hitts

LP (Item 735657) Press Records, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good
(€23.57 || £20.86 || ¥3186) (approx.)

Hard rockin party soul from the legendary Flares – a sock-soul west coast group who flourished briefly in the early 60s! The group's classic "Foot Stompin" is one of the most recognizable (and most catchy!) tunes of its era – and it's packaged here in a 26 track set that includes a wealth of hard to find recordings. The Flares had a style that took off from the harder-rocking sound of groups like The Coasters and The Olympics, with some of the pyrotechnic touches of The Vibrations – and this package is one of the first times in years their material has been properly presented. (Cover has clear tape on the top and bottom seams, but this is a nice clean copy overall.)  © 1996-2018, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Amazing work from the great Jon Lucien – and probably his best-ever record! The album has Jon hitting a totally unified vision of spacey soul – bringing in elements of Brazilian music and touches of his Carribean roots, fusing them together with a sweet jazzy style and one of the most ... Polydor, 1971. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
An amazing double-live album that's to concert records what James Brown's Payback was to the sound of studio funk! Like that classic, this is a double-length 2LP set that really has James and the JBs stretching out and doing their thing – working here in a setting that's supposed to be the ... C'est Chic
Atantic, 1978. Very Good+
A massive set from the legendary Chic – and a set that has the dancefloor combo coming down perfectly throughout! Riffing Nile Rodgers guitars really make the tunes cook – as does the superb production – and although the record played plenty in discos and radios of the mainstream ... LP, Vinyl record album
Soulful Strut
Brunswick, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A funky soul instrumental classic – all the way through! The team of Eldee Young and Redd Holt first came to prominence with Ramsey Lewis' first Chicago trio, then branched out on their own as a jazz act – but by the time of this set, they'd picked up a hipper, funkier late 60s sort of ... Tamla, 1973. Very Good+
A legendary album from the great Eddie Kendricks – a set that not only has the singer soaring on the kind of sublime old school vocal numbers he always did so well – but one that also has Eddie stepping out into some great dancefloor modes that would have a huge impact for years to come! ... Warner, 1978. Very Good+
The classic late 70s solo debut by Chaka Khan – one that made Chaka a major star, and deservedly so! This beautiful album showed that she could stand very well on her own two feet without the help of Rufus, thank you. Of course, she's got some fantastic help from Arif Mardin, who works as ... A motherlode of Al's classic soul hits from the early and mid 70's, with essential tracks like "Love & Happiness", "L-O-V-E", "Livin For You", "Full Of Fire", and "Take Me To The River". Great stuff, all sung with Al's perfect voice and great ... LP, Vinyl record album
Stax, 1967. Near Mint-
The Memphis sound, working hard overseas – in a smoking live set that has some Stax Records stars working in Paris! There's a tightness here that arguably goes past the studio work by the singers – possibly because everyone's working in the same space, with the same backing group ... LP, Vinyl record album
Another Taste Of Honey
Liberty, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
A sweet follow up to Martin Denny's Taste Of Honey album – one that's got a great blend of piano, vibes, and percussion – all used in a way that's almost more jazz-like than some of Denny's earlier work! The formula works great to transform a host of 50s and 60s tunes – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Chisa, 1970. Very Good- Gatefold
Wickedly funky work from the Jazz Crusaders – a pivotal set that has them electrifying their groove a bit more from the 60s, yet still not hitting the smother sound of later years! The core soul jazz mode of the group's start is still nicely in place – hard-hitting grooves from Wayne ... LP, Vinyl record album
Ports Of Pleasure
Capitol, 1957. Very Good-
A dreamy exploration of south sea ideals from the great Les Baxter – a set that's got a more lightly drifting quality than some of his more percussive exotica albums, and which is awash in dreamy soundscapes penned by Les himself! The orchestrations are large and bold throughout – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Of Love & Desire
20th Century, 1963. Sealed
This one's a pretty serious score – despite what looks like a groovy sexy cover – written and conducted by Ronald Stein, with mostly sombre emotional themes.
