This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
An overlooked Hammond slammer from Charles Earland – cut at a time when he was working on more electric keyboards for other labels. The set's a killer all the way through – very much in the best early 70s Prestige Records mode – with long tracks that really jam, and a lineup that ... LP, Vinyl record album
A monster – and Charles Earland's second album for Prestige, the follow-up to his groundbreaking Black Talk album! This set's as great as that classic set – a tight batch of groovers that features Earland's Hammond work right out front, grooving away in a soaring, exploratory style ... LP, Vinyl record album
A growling set of organ jazz tracks, played by Don with a tight trio that includes David Fathead Newman on flute and tenor. The set includes a great version of James Moody's amazing "Darben The Redd Foxx", plus the tracks "Head", "Mellow Soul", and "Hump Snapa ... LP, Vinyl record album
Collection of soul jazz sides Shirley cut with her husband Stanley Turrentine. A mellow burner – and a real classic from the early 60s soul jazz years of Prestige Records! The album brings together the saxes of Sonny Stitt (both alto and tenor) and the Hammond of Jack McDuff – who's really coming into his own at this point, and has a lean, mean tone that's a ... A pivotal album for Eric Kloss, and one that has him reaching for the freer style that would characterize his work for the next decade – but which also has him sticking pretty close to his soul jazz roots, and laying down some tight modal grooves. The group here includes Jimmy Owens on ... LP, Vinyl record album
A killer – one of the best from Prestige during the runaway classic years of the early 70s! Melvin Sparks is a genius guitarist, with a talent as rich as that of Grant Green, who's probably his most immediate precursor. He'd played in the groups of Lou Donaldson and Jack McDuff during the ... LP, Vinyl record album
A striking title – and a strong set of grooves, even if the tracks were pulled from a variety of different sessions, and not recorded as a unified album. Jug plays tenor on all cuts – working in formats that range from a Mal Waldron led trio to larger honking groups with horn players ... LP, Vinyl record album
Rare early King Curtis jazz session – cut in the years before he settled down to his tight short soul instrumental recordings for Atlantic. The record is very much in the Prestige soul jazz style of the early 60s – and King's set up nicely in a group that features Nat Adderley, Wynton ... LP, Vinyl record album
Mid 70's 2LP set that combines fantastic early work from Gil Evans and Tadd Dameron. The Gil Evans tracks are shorter and less ambitious than some of Evans' work on Impulse, but the group is excellent – and even in a shorter format, the conception of the work still contains plenty of rich ... A 2LP set that expands on tunes originally issued on the Coltrane/Mal Waldron albums The Dealers and Wheelin & Dealin – both featuring material recorded in 1957, with Coltrane on tenor, and a rhythm section that features Waldron, Doug Watkins, and Art Taylor. The tracks are open-ended ... LP, Vinyl record album
