Best Of Stan Getz (Columbia)

LP (Item 732009) Columbia, 1980 — Condition: Near Mint-

(White label promo. Cover has light wear and a promo stamp.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Stan Getz

Focus (2nd cover)
Verve, 1961. Near Mint- Gatefold
Oft-overlooked album that's actually one of Getz's most far-reaching of the 60s! Recorded in the year before he got caught up in his bossa pop frenzy, the record shows Getz as a darkly toned modernist, weaving out complex solos over the album's extended suite "Focus", written and ... Mosaic, Early 50s. Near Mint- 4LPs
One of the first real moments of genius from the young Stan Getz – his collaboration with guitarist Jimmy Raney, whose sharp tone matched the rasp of Stan's tenor beautifully! Not sure of the date or the setting – but the record's one of the few great pairings of Stan Getz and Chick Corea – in a group with Miroslav Vitous on bass and Tony Williams on drums. Titles include "Night Time Street", "La Fiesta", "Lush Life", "Wee&q ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stan Getz

Steamer
Verve, 1956. Very Good
The title may be a bit strangely put – as "Steamer" isn't a word that we'd necessarily think to use with the gently flowing tenor tone of Stan Getz – but that doesn't stop the album from being a great one, and perhaps in Getz-like terms, it might well have a bit more steam ... A great little session – and a meeting that was one of the best things to happen to the Oscar Peterson trio during the 50s! Voices
Verve, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold
An amazingly seductive album from Stan Getz! The record features Getz's tenor blowing breezily away, amidst sophisticated arrangements with touches of dark easy scoring, post-bossa Brazilian writing, and early CTI production. Sweetnighter
Columbia, 1973. Near Mint-
One of our favorite albums ever from Weather Report – an album that has them picking up a bit more soul than before, and shaking off some of the experimental sounds of their roots – yet all in a way that still makes them one of the most revolutionary fusion combos of the time! Intimate Strangers
Columbia, 1978. Very Good
Sweet funky jazz from the great Tom Scott – an album that's recorded a bit later than some of his beathead classics, a great one nonetheless!
