Bill Cosby Presents Badfoot Brown & The Bunions Bradford Funeral Marching Band (Sussex)

LP (Item 7289) Sussex, 1972 — Condition: Very Good
A great album of funky grooves put together by Bill Cosby, and featuring some of his funky friends from LA, like Stu Gardner, Gildo Mahones, Mel Brown, Willie Bobo, Monk Montgomery, and Paul Humphrey! The set's not to be confused with the similarly titled album on Uni – but is equally great – and it features 3 looooong funky tracks – "Abuse", "The Blues", and "Bunions" – all with a lot of silliness, plus two shorter ones, including "I Love You Camille", written for his wife to stop her getting mad at all of his philandering!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear and aging, half split top seam, mostly split bottom seam, and is lightly bent across the center.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sussex, Early 70s. Near Mint-
A vocal group classic from back in the day – the one and only full length set issued by The Presidents – one of those east coast groups who really knew how to knock it out of the park! Van McCoy handles the production, and wrote and arranged most of the tracks too – and the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ralph Graham

Differently
Sussex, 1974. Near Mint-
Very interesting soul material from this enigmatic singer. Ralph had a righteous approach that mixed larger arrangements with a folksy style – in an overall effect that was a few parts Terry Callier, a few parts late Jerry Butler, and a few parts Grady Tate – but which had an approach ... Stax, 1967. Very Good-
A legendary live set from the 60s all-stars of Stax Records – a performance in London in the late 60s, as the label follows Motown's lead on taking its big names overseas! Love Unlimited Orchestra

My Sweet Summer Suite
20th Century, 1976. Very Good
A wonderful album by Barry White – a bit later than some of the early 70s hits, but one of his most satisfying records overall! The perpetual favorite on the album is the great groover "Strange Games & Things", a slow sly funky track that's been sampled often over the years, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lloyd Price

Misty
Double L, Early 60s. Very Good-
Mr Personality turns his incredible set of pipes on a batch of pop standards, made up by Lloyd into his own uniquely styled numbers. Philly Groove, 1973. Very Good

Isaac Hayes

Joy
Enterprise, 1973. Very Good
One of the funkiest Isaac Hayes albums for Stax – thanks mostly to the extended title cut! The tune "Joy" is a monster – running for nearly 16 minutes long, and starting with a killer drum break on the intro – then full, proud, bad-stepping Isaac Hayes grooves ... LP, Vinyl record album

Vanity 6

Vanity 6
Warner, 1982. Very Good
The only record from this group that would sort of morph into Apollonia 6, one of many Prince vehicles during the 80s. As you'd hope from a Prince side project, the tracks here bubble with his new wave/pop/funk crossover, though really the hit "Nasty Girl" is pretty much the only ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bill Withers

Menagerie
Columbia, 1977. Very Good
One of Bill Withers' greatest albums of the 70s – a set that has hip stepping off the acoustic sound of his Sussex records, into a warm and jazzy style that we like every bit as much as his earlier work! The album's got a wonderfully sophisticated jazzy vibe, and includes the excellent cut ... LP, Vinyl record album

Herbie Mann & The Afro-Jazz Sextet + Four Trumpets

Common Ground
Atlantic, 1960. Very Good
A great little record, filled with loads of cross-cultural influences that make for one of the most exotic Herbie Mann albums of the 60s! The group's billed as the Afro-Jazz Sextet– but has a strong Latin vibe as well – a bit of an echo of the experiments Herbie Mann did with Latin ... LP, Vinyl record album
