Jackie Gleason Presents Oooo!

LP (Item 7247) Capitol, Late 50s — Condition: Very Good+

One of the greatest Jackie Gleason albums ever! The album has these warm lush orchestrations, with wordless vocals by "The Voices of Artie Malvin" wispily dreaming over it, hence the "Ooooo!" in the title. Tracks include "Thine Alone", "It's All Right With Me", "Imagination", "Here Lies Love", "Beyond The Blue Horizon", "Can This Be Love?", "Secret Love", and "High On A Windy Hill".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono rainbow label pressing. Cover has partial split on top & bottom, light wear & aging.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jackie Gleason

Lonesome Echo
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good+
A fantastic album – if only for the cover! The record features a rare cover image that's an obscure painting by Salvador Dali – and the back cover features a photo of Jackie and Dali shaking hands! The music's not as surreal as the image, but it's still got this amazingly baroque ... LP, Vinyl record album

Les Baxter

Sounds Of Adventure
Capitol, Mid 60s. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A 2LP set, released in the mid 60's as a "Capitol Record Club Exclusive" – and one that compiles some of Baxter's best work for the label. The inside of the cover has some good notes on Baxter's career, and the record contains many nice moments like "Dancing Diamonds", ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Early 50s. Near Mint-
The notes say that the album is "the rare plum of authenticity". We don't know if we'd go that far, but we can tell you that the record features Yma performing songs of the legendary Jivaro headhunters! Supposedly, Yma learned them in her "South American jungle-home", but we ... LP, Vinyl record album

Yma Sumac

Mambo!
Capitol, 1954. Near Mint-
Quite possibly our favorite album ever by the enigmatic Yma Sumac – thanks to some lively arrangements by Billy May, who gives the set a swinging jazzy groove! As you might guess from the cover, the style here is more in a Latin jazz mode than some of Yma's other more ethereal work – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Flahooley
Capitol, Early 50s. Near Mint-
One of the more obscure Yma Sumac albums from the 50s – a broadway production with a larger cast – and much more of a musical than Sumac's other records. Yma really stands out in the show, though – singing a few special numbers with music by Moises Vivanco – but the rest is ... LP, Vinyl record album

That Lonely Feeling
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good
One of the mellower albums from Alvino Rey – the amazing 50s pedal steel guitar (or console guitar) player who made some very cool records for Capitol! Although some of Rey's records for the label have the feel of Esquivel's best work, this one's a bit dreamier – still quite odd, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Walter Carlos (now Wendy) performs electronic versions of many classics on the Moog. If nothing else, this is an interesting period piece, though on a certain level we're quite fond of it, oth in it's performance and it's motivation.
