Big Gundown

LP (Item 72433) United Artists, 1966 — Condition: Near Mint-
One of Morricone's first groundbreaking scores for the western – a brilliant batch of tunes composed for The Big Gundown, handled in a way that mixed the typical western guitar-based themes, with some of il maestro's other compulsions, like wordless vocals and isolated instrumentation amidst lush orchestral backdrops. There's barely any "spaghetti" on the plate of this one – just 13 brilliant tracks, including the main title theme, "Run, Man, Run", "The Bullfight", "After The Verdict", 'First Desert", "Cucillo Arrives" and "Normoni Choir".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

La Stagione Dei Sensi
Ariete (Italy), 1969. Near Mint-
A lesser-known soundtrack from Ennio Morricone – but one of his grooviest moments of the late 60s! The score is a great blend of heavy and light – and blends together that wonderful floating Morricone style with some heavier, fuzzier tunes that show the late 60s period of the film ... Michel Legrand

Happy Ending
United Artists, 1969. Near Mint-
A slice of genius from Michel Legrand – one of his brilliant late 60s soundtracks, not as well remembered as, but cut during the same period as The Thomas Crown Affair. Manos Hadjidakis

Topkapi
United Artists, 1964. Near Mint-
A standout 60s soundtrack from the great Manos Hadjidakis – penned for a heist thriller from director Jules Dassin! Goldfinger
United Artists, 1964. Near Mint-
The soundtrack that put John Barry over the top – and to many, THE James Bond soundtrack! The album chills from the first notes of the haunting title theme – the majestic "Goldfinger", sung by Shirley Bassey with a tone that's as dangerous as a razor-sharp hat spinning ... LP, Vinyl record album

A swinging sex comedy score from the legendary Neal Hefti – not as well-known as some of his big 60s hits, but a wonderfully groovy record throughout! Angelo Lavagnino

Naked Maja
United Artists, 1959. Near Mint-
A compelling score from Angelo Lavagnino – one that features all the lush, romantic touches you'd know from his Italian work – but which also has plenty of Spanish inflections, too – all in support of the film's story of the painter Goya! There's definitely a sense of Hollywood ... LP, Vinyl record album

Henry Mancini

Gunn . . . Number One!
RCA, 1968. Very Good
Nice 60s crime jazz from Mancini! Although Mancini's fame was made in the late 50s for his work on the classic Peter Gunn TV show, it's less known that he also did the score for the less-than-successful Peter Gunn film. Directed in 1967 by Blake Edwards, the film was a weak attempt to transfer ... LP, Vinyl record album
